Bizarre, they could rename it "Poke the old fascist"

Shame, Peter Oborne is a lot better than that (witness his grumpy, anti-establishment, pro-minority rants - some good ones courtesy of Charlie Brooker). Has the Heil affected him that badly?

Looking at the Twitters, he's not overly pleased with himself either.

I know Obore (boom tish) is the leftie’s favourite rightie, but he’s still awful. NQ is repeated at lunchtime today is it? So I might get a listen, but I note from other forums (there’s a short mumsnet thread) that he was embarrassing, shit and they turned off.

bossab2 - 13 Jan 2018 09:30:27 (#3 of 29)

Its worth listening to for a bit just see what a mess they've made of the programme, its really gone down hill since the Tosvig days.

thisonehasalittlehat - 13 Jan 2018 09:34:15 (#4 of 29)

Yeah everything's getting worse

Electro2 - 13 Jan 2018 09:42:43 (#5 of 29)

Obore is turning into Dacre.

TommyDGNR8 - 13 Jan 2018 09:44:43 (#6 of 29)

You really talk shite, sometimes, boss.

hailesaladdie - 13 Jan 2018 09:48:18 (#7 of 29)

Nonsense, Jupp's been rather good, I think (and I usually wait for the News Quiz Extra before listening). He had some really tiny shoes to fill, too.

Also worth seeking out on iPlayer is Breaking the News, effectively the Scottish equivalent. Incidentally, they also had a fairly right-wing guest on last week, too...

TommyDGNR8 - 13 Jan 2018 10:12:41 (#8 of 29)

My iTunes feed hasn't picked up any BTN since before Christmas.

<off to investigate>

hailesaladdie - 13 Jan 2018 10:32:20 (#9 of 29)

Actually, yeah, looking at it, the last one was the 29th. Damn the disorienting nature of this time of year...

thisonehasalittlehat - 13 Jan 2018 10:59:32 (#10 of 29)

I quite like the news quiz but it is insufferably smug.

hailesaladdie - 13 Jan 2018 11:31:14 (#11 of 29)

It's on R4! Set your expectations accordingly.

I do enjoy listening to iPlayer radio while I'm washing up etc but I have to apply my internal smugness filter.

SheikYerbouti - 13 Jan 2018 11:36:16 (#12 of 29)

It's not often that I agree with the bossabs, but the start of the Jupp era was indeed crap. Perhaps he's found his stride but I gave up listening.

airynothing - 13 Jan 2018 14:59:36 (#13 of 29)

#10 That's rich coming from you, hatters.

JerkinMcGherkin - 13 Jan 2018 15:19:09 (#14 of 29)

Emblematic of the right having nothing new to say - even for comic effect.

Lawlsie - 13 Jan 2018 15:21:03 (#15 of 29)

Oborne was dreadful but Jupp is excellent chairing TNQ.

whitbreadtrophy - 18 Jan 2018 09:26:38 (#16 of 29)

There appears to be a shift in getting more right-wing voices on TNQ with slightly less Jeremy Hardy and Mark Steel and slightly more Simon Evans - Jupp even referred to Oborne sitting in "the Evans chair" but in terms of misjudging the programme and his place in it this was on a par with Piers Morgan on HIGNFY.

But not as bad as Matthew Parris a few years ago who just came across as a bitchy little shit.

nac1001 - 18 Jan 2018 09:31:30 (#17 of 29)

Evans is pretty good. He's a comedian which helps. He knows why he is on the programme and he plays the part.

Lawlsie - 18 Jan 2018 09:31:50 (#18 of 29)

Exactly.

Goneril - 18 Jan 2018 09:36:06 (#19 of 29)

Do you think Oborne was trying to be funny? Maybe he even thought he was being funny. It's really hard to tell when someone's that unpleasant.

xDiggy - 18 Jan 2018 09:41:54 (#20 of 29)

I think it’s obvious they are trying to balance the obvious liberal ‘bias’ of these kind of R4 shows - as a smug metropolitan I do enjoy the shared laughter every time something like Brexit is mentioned.

It’s just that oddly they seem to struggle to find many intelligent and funny and likeable rw Brexiters to make it work.
