Why is Jeremy Thorpe like William the Conqueror?

They were both fucking Normans.

Electro2 - 20 May 2018 17:14:59 (#2 of 434)

3 Sunday scandals to look forward to.

browserbutton - 20 May 2018 17:18:27 (#3 of 434)

Jeremy is going to clash with the Handmaids :-(

popstar7 - 20 May 2018 17:21:28 (#4 of 434)

This The Great British/A Very English blah blah cliche is getting tedious.

RosyLovelady - 20 May 2018 17:34:40 (#5 of 434)

Demonstrate your disapproval by refusing to watch it.

popstar7 - 20 May 2018 17:38:56 (#6 of 434)

Rest assured, a Sunday night drama about Jeremy Thorpe is among the last things I'd be inclined to watch.

RosyLovelady - 20 May 2018 17:39:50 (#7 of 434)

Ew, hoity toity.

Tadagee - 20 May 2018 17:46:47 (#8 of 434)

Why is Jeremy Thorpe like Captain Kirk?

They both get beamed up by Scotty.

Actually that doesn't even scan.

Arjuna - 20 May 2018 17:49:35 (#9 of 434)

I concur that the title is a bit of cliche but it does look good

AlanII - 20 May 2018 17:52:55 (#10 of 434)

Why is Jeremy Thorpe like Captain Kirk?

They both get beamed up by Scotty.

The way I remember that one is, "They both ask Scotty for more thrust".

Arjuna - 20 May 2018 17:55:35 (#11 of 434)

I wonder if any of these gags made it into the tv show?

Tadagee - 20 May 2018 17:56:59 (#12 of 434)

I was only at primary school at the time so no idea how we knew about Jeremy Thorpe.

AlanII - 20 May 2018 18:06:00 (#13 of 434)

No thread on this would be complete without these few minutes of genius.

Peter Cook is my before clicking on it bet.

Catspyjamas17 - 20 May 2018 18:27:17 (#15 of 434)

It's more a drama about the lengths the establishment will go to to cover shit up, popstar.

Definitely not one for any fans of Thorpe.

popstar7 - 20 May 2018 18:32:11 (#16 of 434)

There's a bit of writer-audience mutual flattery with these kinds of (living memory) period dramas, too. The Alan Turing one, The Danish Girl, Theory of Everything etc. We get to be shocked by the prejudices of times past and feel good about how far we've come. It feels a bit formulaic.

lapsedcat - 20 May 2018 19:18:30 (#17 of 434)

Absolutely agree.

LemonGrass - 20 May 2018 19:25:53 (#18 of 434)

#1 Nice one, DU.

LemonGrass - 20 May 2018 19:26:25 (#19 of 434)

Vote Liberal or we’ll shoot your dog.

Goneril - 20 May 2018 20:21:19 (#20 of 434)

At the time of the trial, a great deal of the public outrage was caused by the fate of poor Rinka.
