Another one from our collective TV memories goes. She was 93.

Gone to join Terry in in the great semi detached in the sky.

TinyMcOtter - 30 Dec 2018 03:54:21 (#2 of 55)

I wonder if the boss is still coming to dinner every week?

SatelliteOne - 30 Dec 2018 08:17:55 (#3 of 55)

Terry And June was shit though but.

clammy - 30 Dec 2018 08:24:13 (#4 of 55)

Was june's thinking slightly to the right of Tebbit, Or have I got completely the wrong person?

The two leads lifted the material, which was very weak indeed. T&J started off in Croydon, like Peep Show. Croydon's portrayed very differently 30 years on:

Maybe it was rubbish, but at least, as the late Malcolm Hardee would have said, it was both rubbish and local.

Ha ha, I’m keeping that quip.

My earliest sitcom memories were watching Happy Ever After and laughing along with the canned laughter, pretending to get the jokes (I was five).

Happened to see JW only a few days ago in an episode of Topsy and Tim.

R.I.P. Dame June Whitfield.

Catspyjamas17 - 30 Dec 2018 08:43:55 (#8 of 55)

I came to know of her in Terry and June when it was rather tired, but came to appreciate her later in Ab Fab and through that her other work. An institution. RIP.

In the 80s, there seemed to be a slew of middle-age, middle-class sitcoms all trying to ride on the coat tails of T&J. I dimly remember Fresh Fields and Ever Decreasing Circles. I came to hate the genre.

CarlosFandango - 30 Dec 2018 09:03:47 (#10 of 55)

Culminating with Victor Mildew, perhaps?

machiavelli - 30 Dec 2018 09:12:22 (#11 of 55)

Yeah, that was probably the swansong. Though I don't have a TV these days so there may be another cohort of full jokes in immaculate sitting rooms that I'm completely unaware of.

CarlosFandango - 30 Dec 2018 09:13:14 (#12 of 55)

Sorry, can't help you there.

FleurDuMal - 30 Dec 2018 09:14:28 (#13 of 55)

She was ace as the dotty mum in Ab Fab.

darkhorse - 30 Dec 2018 09:18:15 (#14 of 55)

Eth in Take It From Here:

"Ron, do you think a married couple should be frank and earnest?"

"No Eth.......I think one of them should be a woman".

She's in the blood donor. She plays a nurse.

machiavelli - 30 Dec 2018 09:20:25 (#16 of 55)

Mmmm, she was lovely.

This is one of my favourite scenes:

The opening sequence where Terry and June fail to find each other around Croydon (see #5):

Jolly music, wasn’t it? Probably won’t be chosen for the memorial service.

RIP, June. Loved her in Ab Fab and, as a kid, thoroughly enjoyed Terry and June.

carterbrandon - 30 Dec 2018 10:23:47 (#20 of 55)

Her daughter was at university at the same time as me. Nobody bothered with her name, she was just 'June Whitfield's daughter', poor thing.
