I've come to hate Jools Holland and his fucking Hootenanny

It's like the switch from seasonal cheer to January bleakness.

Featuring crooning superstar Michael Bublé no less.

What took you so long?

lapsedcat - 31 Dec 2018 13:36:08 (#3 of 158)

Jools Holland exemplifies everything that is wrong with this country.

solomongursky - 31 Dec 2018 13:36:37 (#4 of 158)

and Holland.

Shadrack22 - 31 Dec 2018 13:40:46 (#5 of 158)

Ruby Turner will be on yet again I’d predict.

But fear not - there is a repeat of Silent Witness on the Drama channel to usher you into 2019.

SheikYerbouti - 31 Dec 2018 13:41:51 (#6 of 158)

The antisemitism against Jews Holland on these boards is as sad as it is predictable. I blame Jeremy Corbyn.

I think I'll watch Basic Instinct, or maybe just fall asleep for 100 years.

Arjuna - 31 Dec 2018 13:48:34 (#8 of 158)

He was OK in Squeeze but hated him since he moved to tv land.

ChankNolen - 31 Dec 2018 13:55:31 (#9 of 158)

There's literally no tune he can't ruin with his bananas-for-fingers boogie woogie comping.

TheVoiceOfReason - 31 Dec 2018 13:58:36 (#10 of 158)

Such grinches! The Hootenanny does what it does.

It's the being pre-recorded which does it for me. A fucking countdown to midnight?

Shadrack22 - 31 Dec 2018 14:07:54 (#12 of 158)

31 December 1978:

BBC1: 10.10pm Larry Grayson’s Generation Game, 11pm The Good Old Days (special guest Roy Castle), 12.00 Big Ben, 12.01 Live from Scotland with Peter Morrison, Andy Cameron, the Krankies, the Jim Johnstone Scottish Country Dance Band and the British Caledonian Airways Pipe Band.

BBC2: 9pm Itzhak Perlman Virtuoso Violinist, 10pm Jack Lemmon in Cowboy, 11.30pm Watchnight Service from the Methodist Church Kingsway Hall led by Lord Soper with a choir from the Harpenden branch of the National Children’s Home, 12.00 Big Ben, 12.01 Old Grey Whistle Test pick of the year.

12.00 Big Ben

That was just a close up of Big Ben. No fireworks then I don't think, now it's one of the best NYE displays in the world. It's Big Ben's 160th anniversary:

#9: A few years ago he bottled out of adding it to the folk stylings of Eliza Carthy. Still, the Jools crowd did manage to clap like seals or Christians or a Strictly audience in their everything's-a-party style, to one of her bleak drones of rural supernatural horror.

TheVoiceOfReason - 31 Dec 2018 14:15:09 (#15 of 158)

Ah, The Good Old Days. Beloved of my grandparents, with luck followed by Are You Being Served? or George & Mildred. Happy times.

RosyLovelady - 31 Dec 2018 14:18:46 (#16 of 158)

Hootenanny sounds ridiculous. Down with this sort of word.

JerkinMcGherkin - 31 Dec 2018 14:19:05 (#17 of 158)

I never watch it. Might watch my DVD of Koyaanisqatsi instead.

cozzer - 31 Dec 2018 14:20:03 (#18 of 158)

That was just a close up of Big Ben

It would have been the clock face, wouldn't it?

carterbrandon - 31 Dec 2018 14:20:23 (#19 of 158)

Jools Holland's New Year Koyaanisqatsi. I'd buy that for a dollar!

JerkinMcGherkin - 31 Dec 2018 14:21:53 (#20 of 158)

I might watch the whole Qatsi trilogy this evening - Koyaanisqatsi, Powaqqatsi and Naqoyqatsi. I did that on New Year's Eve a few years ago. Or I might watch a Godzilla and then Koyaanisqatsi.
