Not passed away

I'm stunned. Aged 57, died earlier today from cancer.

Very sad news. Saw him several times.

GrrrIbdis - 01 Feb 2019 09:58:31 (#2 of 270)

Very, very sad news.

CaptainBlack - 01 Feb 2019 10:00:04 (#3 of 270)

That's shit news. He was always good value on The News Quiz.

Catspyjamas17 - 01 Feb 2019 10:00:35 (#4 of 270)

Very sad, I thought he was very funny.

lapsedcat - 01 Feb 2019 10:01:55 (#5 of 270)

Saw him doing Clue. Always seemed slightly sheepish but what a wit.

enidcoleslaw - 01 Feb 2019 10:02:17 (#6 of 270)

Jesus, that's grim. Saw him years ago on stage with a lot of other improv chums and he was great.

HouseOfLametta - 01 Feb 2019 10:02:56 (#7 of 270)

Bollocks.

HouseOfLametta - 01 Feb 2019 10:03:18 (#8 of 270)

Also: fuck fucking cancer, you cunt.

sqeezy - 01 Feb 2019 10:03:35 (#9 of 270)

Oh fuck.

MrPurple - 01 Feb 2019 10:04:17 (#10 of 270)

Well that sucks

NotACloggie - 01 Feb 2019 10:04:26 (#11 of 270)

No!

clammy - 01 Feb 2019 10:12:16 (#12 of 270)

What a shame, he was so likeable. God bless.

SinnerBoy - 01 Feb 2019 10:14:21 (#13 of 270)

That's awful, I hadn't even realised that he was ill, poor bugger.

Lawlsie - 01 Feb 2019 10:17:11 (#14 of 270)

Unfortunately The News Quiz is recorded on Thursdays so it may be too late to do a tribute to him. Perhaps they can get one in before the programme starts? It's at 6.30 tonight on Radio 4, repeated 12.30 tomorrow. Longer version 11pm Radio 4 Extra on Monday night.

TRaney - 01 Feb 2019 10:18:58 (#15 of 270)

Oh bugger, I’ve always liked him

KizzyK - 01 Feb 2019 10:19:00 (#16 of 270)

Just heard, that has really saddened me. And also made me feel quite vindictive towards some of his twitter trolls who were goading him a few days ago for not sounding quite himself.

Arjuna - 01 Feb 2019 10:19:11 (#17 of 270)

He was a master at mixing politics with comedy, it was especially notable back in the 80s when most who attempted it were as as subtle as a sledgehammer.

TRaney - 01 Feb 2019 10:20:18 (#18 of 270)

Yes, I don't really share his politics but he always made me laugh

carterbrandon - 01 Feb 2019 10:32:44 (#19 of 270)

#8: I can't say I like how it goes for Linda Smith and Jeremy, while sparing the likes of Trump, Murdoch and Farage who should be right in its sights.

NotACloggie - 01 Feb 2019 10:34:19 (#20 of 270)

And also made me feel quite vindictive towards some of his twitter trolls who were goading him a few days ago for not sounding quite himself.

Awww, that's horrible. It reminds me of when Mo Mowlam was receiving snide comments in the press for putting on weight, when in fact her treatment for a brain tumour made her a little more rounded.
