According to April Ryan his cheque for child support cleared so he'll be out by tomorrow

Sorry, but I find it utterly beyond me to give even the tiniest of teeny-tiny shits about this repellent tossbag.

There's a hideous circularity to talking about people simply because they're the talked-about people.

Apologies for the self-righteous hectoring tone, but are there not about a squillion gazillion more interesting and important things in life than some shouty perv in a shiny suit?

foxybrown - 07 Mar 2019 23:59:08 (#3 of 47)

Why you posting then?

frantastic - 07 Mar 2019 23:59:50 (#4 of 47)

Spot on, CF. "repellent tossbag" is poetry.

CarlosFandango - 08 Mar 2019 00:05:22 (#5 of 47)

I don't know, foxy. And I doubt that it'll continue, my one point having been made.

Thanks, frantastic. A bugger of a rhyme though so I shall peruse my Whitman and take it from there.

frantastic - 08 Mar 2019 00:13:32 (#6 of 47)

"discordant hashtag"?

CarlosFandango - 08 Mar 2019 00:17:08 (#7 of 47)

Nice!

thisonehasalittlehat - 08 Mar 2019 06:46:50 (#8 of 47)

I agree with carlos and to prove it I'm also not going to post on this thread.

HouseOfLametta - 08 Mar 2019 06:48:25 (#9 of 47)

Me either. I wouldn’t be seen dead here.

thisonehasalittlehat - 08 Mar 2019 06:49:36 (#10 of 47)

There must be about a dozen more interesting threads on this forum anyway.

HouseOfLametta - 08 Mar 2019 06:50:25 (#11 of 47)

Four or five, anyway.

I'm finding it all horribly fascinating, to be honest. His music does nothing for me, but it has made me wonder how many old school African-American artists' lives would have stood up to this level of close scrutiny.

Or indeed, white rock stars. It amazes me how casually the likes of Bowie and Jimmy Page having sex with underage girls (in the full knowledge that they were underage) is treated in their biographies.

I think societal attitudes are retrospectively catching up with behaviour that has probably been quite widespread and not exactly condoned but certainly enabled by the music business.

What about Elvis? It always seemed batshit to me that he was allowed to groom a 14 year old girl right under the nose of the media.

Pixiedust - 08 Mar 2019 10:53:03 (#14 of 47)

Erm, there has been no close scrutiny until parents have had to get police to do welfare checks because they think they're daughters are being held captive.

R Kelly has been allowed to get away with his child-bothering ways for far too long. He got a pass on Aaliyah; people ignored the fact that he trolled for new victims outside of high schools; the McDonald's he went to after being bailed is notorious as one of his pick-up joints. A jury saw video of him urinating on an underage girl, but still chose to acquit.

If he was upset during his interview, it's only because his paedo-peen has finally gotten him into trouble.

Not attempting to justify that but wasn't that a hell a lot more common up until about 30 odd years ago?

There was a guy in the paper recently who has about 20 kids. He met his wife when he was 18.

She was 13.

It's only in recent times (90s onwards maybe) that we've decided older guys shouldn't have young girlfriends.

Of course, now young girls only sleep with young boys, that hasn't made things 100% rosy for young girls and they have a whole new set of problems to deal with having their first sexual experiences give by someone trained only by pron.

It was still the same kind of behaviour we are damning Michael Jackson for. He schmoozed her family and for years they both lied and made out that it was an innocent, platonic friendship. (Obvs they married when they could legally do so).

And I believe she wasn't the only underage girl.

Agaliarept - 08 Mar 2019 11:06:55 (#17 of 47)

As I said, not attempting to justify it but lots of people were doing what Elvis did when he did it. Almost no one thinks what MJ was doing was acceptable.

And I believe she wasn't the only underage girl.

That's new to me but again, possibly in keeping with the times.

dottie30 - 08 Mar 2019 11:11:31 (#18 of 47)

It's actually pretty much widely known. He slept with underage fans in their early teens. Even famously is alleged to have said that at 18, Natalie Wood was too old for him.

I'm not doubting you, just that I don't know much about Elvis beyond some of his more well known songs.
