I am most amused that, bar the actual battle scenes, pretty much everything that was in the trailers was in this episode, so we know nothing about what's coming.

crabbyoldbat - 15 Apr 2019 11:28:37 (#2 of 86)

Also that they tied off all the 'I'm so waiting for ... Jon and Arya .... Sansa and Tyrion ... etc. to meet.

And nixed the much-anticipated-by-fans elephants.

nemo75 - 15 Apr 2019 11:29:24 (#3 of 86)

Nobody wants a seasick elephant.

crabbyoldbat - 15 Apr 2019 11:29:45 (#4 of 86)

Exactly.

nemo75 - 15 Apr 2019 11:31:08 (#5 of 86)

I find myself getting distracted all the time.

How does the flaming sword work?

crabbyoldbat - 15 Apr 2019 11:37:24 (#6 of 86)

It's because of the Red God (R'hllor) magic, that's resurrected Beric Dondarion to date - the sword lights if he wills it or strokes it or something. Set up by blood in the first place I think. Melisandre did one with Stannis on the beach early on, too.

Bromio - 15 Apr 2019 11:37:46 (#7 of 86)

I liked that they crammed so many meetings into the first episode without fanfare. And that the last meeting they showed, between Kingslayer and Cripple, a reunion lurking in the background since episode one of season one, will be carried over to the next episode thereby giving it a weight that none of the other meetings were granted.

crabbyoldbat - 15 Apr 2019 11:38:17 (#8 of 86)

Although I suspect you weren't really asking, just pointing out what distracts you. Sorry, I'm nerd-festing.

nemo75 - 15 Apr 2019 11:40:07 (#9 of 86)

Heh heh. I meant, is it an after effect or does the prop flame.

crabbyoldbat - 15 Apr 2019 11:40:24 (#10 of 86)

Yes, Bromio, it does give extra import for that meeting, good point. Elsewhere its also been pointed out that them together echoes the end of the very first episode, as the beginning of this one echoed the beginning of the very first.

crabbyoldbat - 15 Apr 2019 11:42:01 (#11 of 86)

#9 D'oh. I guess the prop flames because lighting is needed to be right in the scene?

I liked that they crammed so many meetings into the first episode without fanfare

I liked that they did this, but also that almost all the fan squeeing I've been reading has been about 'can't wait for Jon to find out his parentage', 'can't wait for Arya to see Gendry' etc. And the showmakers are all - done and dusted, bish, bash, bosh, don't know what you were so exercised about, and by the way, no elephants. Oh yeah, and here's Bronn, and Theon, and A FLAMING DEAD CHILD

Bromio - 15 Apr 2019 12:17:00 (#14 of 86)

Yup, precisely. Deftly done indeed.

Jacob_Richter - 15 Apr 2019 19:04:36 (#15 of 86)

Cersei - "I wanted elephants".

Capt Strickland - "All the CGI budget went on dragons, your Grace".

crabbyoldbat - 15 Apr 2019 20:10:32 (#16 of 86)

Heh

Splattsville - 15 Apr 2019 20:11:11 (#17 of 86)

We're still missing a few key characters (Brienne etc), but all in all a nice episode for getting everyone together. Hooray for Theon being alive, and rescuing Yara!

crabbyoldbat - 15 Apr 2019 20:17:13 (#18 of 86)

Brienne was in the background when Sansa met Daenerys, but yes - I want to see her with Tormund and Jamie.

Splattsville - 15 Apr 2019 20:19:45 (#19 of 86)

Was she? I missed that, I'll just have to watch it again.

crabbyoldbat - 15 Apr 2019 20:20:03 (#20 of 86)

I thought the Theon rescue was a bit perfunctory, too easy - but time's a-wasting, and its not that important.
