Mackenzie Crook as Worzel Gummidge

First look here:

https://www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2019-06-06/worzel-gummidge-mackenzie-crook-photo/

Even on the basis of one photo, there are people claiming their childhood has now been ruined by the "PC" remake (how come it's only ever men who say shit like this?)

I was terrified of worzel gummidge as a child, and Crook looks absolutely horrific in this so really I'm meh

widenation - 06 Jun 2019 21:33:06 (#2 of 15)

No mention of Aunt Sally then I see.

Agaliarept - 06 Jun 2019 21:33:08 (#3 of 15)

It does look shit tbh but McKenzie is a fave in this house.

I’ll be watching.

Tadagee - 06 Jun 2019 21:34:56 (#4 of 15)

He looks like Freddie Kruger.

#2 - I think Aunt Sally is only a very minor character in the books.

Arjuna - 06 Jun 2019 21:47:02 (#6 of 15)

No mention of Aunt Sally then I see

Obviously he will be gay in the PC remake

widenation - 06 Jun 2019 21:58:29 (#7 of 15)

Perhaps it will be a Brexit allegory.

NotACloggie - 06 Jun 2019 21:58:43 (#8 of 15)

Oooh, nice!

Macpaddy - 07 Jun 2019 00:27:52 (#9 of 15)

I like Mackenzie Crook. He should be good One horrible rumour that came my way was that Martin Freeman had the role.

SatelliteOne - 07 Jun 2019 03:57:01 (#10 of 15)

Worzel Gummidge stories gave me nightmares on a scale not seen since the Autons first appeared on on Dr Who.

HouseOfLametta - 07 Jun 2019 06:47:01 (#11 of 15)

I thought this was about the Tory leadership race.

Tadagee - 07 Jun 2019 06:48:30 (#12 of 15)

MacKenzie Crook is ace in the rather good Britannia.

Tomnoddy - 07 Jun 2019 06:51:57 (#13 of 15)

Barbara Euphan Todd gave no-one nightmares. Jon Pertwee, now, that was another matter. I read all the books, but couldn't warm to the TV version.

Moschops - 07 Jun 2019 08:15:37 (#14 of 15)

I saw them filming Worzel Gummidge at the Watercress Line in Alresford once. More thrilling anecdotes to follow.

As if the Pertwee version didn't "modernise" the books in the first place. I imagine that also provoked anguish in people who considered Frank Atkinson the only true Gummidge.
