Richard Osman's House of Games

Wondering is anyone else watching this, fellow Pointless fans perhaps?

I love it. It's the delicious pudding after the tasty, nourishing dinner of Pointless!

No takers then?

I love this show. Every week, bunch of new people, different group dynamic - what's not to like?

Actually, now I've said that this week's looks like it's going to be crap. Sadly only Hal Crutendon appears to have 2 brain cells to rub together. You can usually rely on the stand-ups to be very smart but Kerry Godliman rather breaks this pattern by being thick as mince.

I like it. I like the randomness of the game order, so it's not such a big deal if you don't see it each night. The contestants all generally get along too, even if some are too competitive, or too dim.

The Battle Royale between Rose Mattafeo and Gary Delaney a few weeks back was genuinely one of the most gripping things I've seen on telly in ages! They need to get those two back for a re-match!

Occasionally catch it if I'm home from work early-ish. Think it's great. Especially the final round mash-up game.

It's just so completely different.

OldApplejack - 27 Jan 2020 20:56:53 (#5 of 60)

We enjoy it a lot. Particularly enjoyed Matt Forde's increasing mix of competitiveness and self-doubt last week.

I think it owes a debt of gratitude to Taskmaster, with minor slebs doing silly things for points. No surprise that it debuted about six months after Osman had been a Taskmaster contestant.

Love it. Suitably light and fluffy fare for an evening. Where can I get myself the smoking jacket?

melpomene - 28 Jan 2020 13:07:16 (#8 of 60)

I want the deckchair. Very fond of it, I normally get in just as it starts, and it's a good way of relaxing before I do anything.

Answersmash is my favourite, I'm pretty good at that, also where is Kazakhstan, at which point MrM just gives up. He's better at the guess the song ones.

I haven't really got what people see in Taskmaster based on what I've watched of it (which admittedly isn't that much), but House of Games I do.

I love Answersmash. I hate Broken Karaoke. I consider myself a bit of a music anarok yet am frustratingly shite at it!

MorrisMitchener - 29 Jan 2020 13:33:55 (#11 of 60)

Bit of a dud week this week, so far. Hal Crutenden, as is often the case with clever comics, has clearly been taken aside by someone and told to ease off a bit, take it easy on the eejits.

But he still won!

Macpaddy - 29 Jan 2020 13:58:16 (#12 of 60)

Big fan of it. My wife is amazing with Broken Karaoke while I'm pretty rubbish at it. I am willing to boast about my Answer Smash prowess though. We often sit shouting at the dimness of some of the contestants, which I know is unfair, we are in the comfort of our own home while they have the full, mind blocking pressure of the game. It's surprising how often there is one far superior player. I don't know if the show would work with anyone other than the superb Richard Osman.

melpomene - 29 Jan 2020 14:39:42 (#13 of 60)

I can't work out whether Kerry really is that stupid that she can't understand the rules and not to shout out, or is trying to be funny and failing.

My verdict on this week - Hal, funny and clever, Radzi - not bad at all on both fronts, both women - thick as mince and not funny at all. Which is a shame.

Macpaddy - 29 Jan 2020 15:31:35 (#14 of 60)

Kerry's complete inability to grasp the simplicity of Answer Smash is embarrassing. Ebony seems nice but dim. Very decorative though.

ReverendBlueJeans - 29 Jan 2020 15:33:29 (#15 of 60)

I agree. It's odd because even rubbish comedians tend to be quite bright and knowledgeable.

YogiMeerfield - 29 Jan 2020 15:35:19 (#16 of 60)

I like it as a show, even though the questions are generally pretty easy.

Catspyjamas17 - 29 Jan 2020 15:35:48 (#17 of 60)

I get home a bit too late or in the middle of it when I'm in the office so I record it and watch it or Pointless while making dinner, or otherwise when there's nowt else on later.

Macpaddy - 29 Jan 2020 15:36:39 (#18 of 60)

It's not about difficulty though, is it? It's speed on the buzzer that gets the laughs,

MorrisMitchener - 29 Jan 2020 16:55:16 (#19 of 60)

Radzi may yet sneak a win, otherwise Hal all the way this week, I reckon.

Macpaddy - 30 Jan 2020 00:09:48 (#20 of 60)

Radzi came close but Kerry fucked up again and gave Hal the clue he needed for the winning point. He deserved his win, though.
