How to pour millions into a house

There was a programme on tv the other day about the billionaire John Cauldwell and his purchase and renovation of a Mayfair house. People at work kept coming and telling more details about this house and how I must watch the programme and marvel at the expense. I watched it last night and was horrified at how much was being spent here. I was chatting to a couple of colleagues online this morning and saying that I thought such expense was just wrong in this day and age and was told I was just jealous, couldn't I see what a beautiful house it was. Look at the pics and see what you think

Ah, what you are maybe not understanding is the vast amounts being spent are keeping a lot of people in work, or at least contributing to keeping them in work. The cost has gone up from the original estimate of £10 million to £67 million - proper builders!!!

It looks like the house belongs to an ugly billionaire with a beautiful Eastern European girlfriend half his age.

It's pretty garish. I don't like it at all.

These places always end up looking more like hotels/restaurants/offices than homes. It's not to my taste, but it's what they all seem to like. I suppose he'll only spend a few days a year in it anyway.

Hoovering all those ceilings must be hard work.

yumyum - 09 Feb 2020 13:34:06 (#6 of 75)

He's going to have his annual ball there to raise money for a children's charity he founded, in the largest ballroom in the UK (apparently) after Buck House. Just give the money quietly, John.

I can't help thinking how many schemes for the homeless, nurses etc this sort of money would pay for.

It's a s*** monument to leave really.

People at work were just marvelling at the beauty, the gilt, the columns, the ooh and the ahs and I just thought it was horrible. The opposite of quiet chic.

Haha -- who does that remind me of?

It’s hideous and he’s a tasteless twat who should be taxed until his fucking ears bleed.

FleurDuMal - 09 Feb 2020 13:58:23 (#11 of 75)

It looks like an upmarket brothel.

Or what I imagine one would look like.

Bonusy - 09 Feb 2020 14:05:50 (#12 of 75)

It is what you do with your money when you haven't got a clue what else to do with it. Cos, you know, you can't just give it away or something

These places always end up looking more like hotels/restaurants/offices than homes

The bedroom especially just looks like a large hotel room

"Around the room, shots from iconic films have been superimposed with the faces of John and his family"

That is just lame. It's a crappy moonpig birthday card gimmick, surely

Ginmonkey - 09 Feb 2020 15:38:43 (#13 of 75)

Ha ha! It is revoltingly tacky. It looks like it has been kitted out from one of those odd tacky furnture shops on the Old Kent road that sell full size gilded panther statues and glass coffee tables.

He's aspiring to gaudy Trump billionaireness here.

carterbrandon - 09 Feb 2020 23:07:02 (#15 of 75)

I've already posted loads about the dodgy cellphone thug boss. There's nothing surprising here about that twat.

MaryMC - 09 Feb 2020 23:09:51 (#16 of 75)

That is hideous.

Looks like the interior of a cross-channel ferry.

Just give the money quietly, John.

Seconded.

SharkPatoo - 09 Feb 2020 23:11:24 (#18 of 75)

But money doesn't exist any more, we could have those things anyway.

JohnIlly - 09 Feb 2020 23:15:21 (#19 of 75)

More brass than taste.

Therefore when you do merciful deeds, don’t sound a trumpet before yourself, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may get glory from men. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward.
