Outrage as Marvel introduces Snowflake the first Afro American non binary superhero

Marvel has rolled out some new superheroes for its upcoming New Warriors series, and one pair of characters in its lineup is generating a lot of buzz: a set of twins with the names Snowflake and Safespace

Marvel took some heat from people on social media accusing the company of attempting to pander to certain groups. Some also suggested the labeling of African-American characters with such names is offensive and tone-deaf

I'm not sure what to say to this. I've spent a lot of time today trying to find out if this is a joke.

It seems it isn't.

It must be

SharkPatoo - 20 Mar 2020 16:30:48 (#3 of 18)

I heard Soy Boy and Numbnutz are on their way.

Agaliarept - 20 Mar 2020 16:32:09 (#4 of 18)

It must be

It literally can't be true but I can't find anything that backs that up!

FredDee - 20 Mar 2020 16:32:37 (#5 of 18)

Snowflake ?

Does that mean that a black actor will wear whiteface ?

There is also Screentime who can instantly google things and another one whose superpower is getting stuff out of a bag.

How does one follow a non-binary's current or permanent moods if there's sexual attraction? Isn't it wrong to assume and make advances based on it?

This is theoretical in the days of social distancing but I still have to know.

Arjuna - 20 Mar 2020 16:46:44 (#8 of 18)

do you fancy Snowflake?

Rubbish superheroes and villains themed around current issues and trends have been something comic companies have done for decades, but this is definitely a strong addition to their ranks.

I’ve heard the forthcoming Buffy reboot will feature a non-white slayer. But then the original series had a couple.

I figure Marvel can just put them out there and if they bomb they would have at least got some publicity

and then on to the re-boot.

here's a chance for diversity: we can have a supervillain named Corona, and he could of course be Chinese. probably a Fu Manchu type.

his secret weakness could involve superheroes wearing red baseball caps.

SharkPatoo - 22 Mar 2020 12:38:01 (#13 of 18)

I miss the old days when people stopped reading comics at about 12.

Arjuna - 22 Mar 2020 12:49:05 (#14 of 18)

with superheroes like the hulk who just angry and beat people up.

Macpaddy - 22 Mar 2020 12:51:12 (#15 of 18)

# 13. Hear! Hear!

Arjuna - 22 Mar 2020 12:55:38 (#16 of 18)

but obviously they do stop reading comics at 12...

... they then start reading graphic novels.

Macpaddy - 22 Mar 2020 14:35:24 (#17 of 18)

Big boys comics, you mean?

Arjuna - 22 Mar 2020 15:01:01 (#18 of 18)

you can knock it but billions have been made from that simple re-branding
