Grayson Perry says right-wing people are ‘friendlier and more open’ than the left

Put this in Media as it;s off the back of a new doc he's made.

“The left is more venal and has more antipathy to the opposition than the other way round,” Perry said. “I would say the right on average are friendlier and more open.”

What say you? Are us lefties more likely to shun someone and be nasty about them?

Arjuna - 15 Sep 2020 17:48:00 (#2 of 57)

Occasionally amusing but he has always talked a lot of shit

Well, putting post 1 & 2 together the answer is clearly 'yes'.

I think Grayson's a bit right.

AdonisBlue - 15 Sep 2020 18:06:05 (#6 of 57)

Grayson's right and some left wing members of this site support his idea.

Godwin alert - they say the Nazis were always very nice and polite though.

Shadrack22 - 15 Sep 2020 18:06:36 (#7 of 57)

So were the Aztecs.

HerrWalrus - 15 Sep 2020 18:06:46 (#8 of 57)

He's learnt the click-bait trick.

To the Twitters!

Jacob_Richter - 15 Sep 2020 18:10:26 (#10 of 57)

I am wondering if Grayson understands the meaning of the word 'venal'.

AdonisBlue - 15 Sep 2020 18:11:43 (#11 of 57)

Or he could be just right.

His tapestry exhibition The Vanity of Small Differences, which I saw in Bristol a couple of years ago, was brilliant. I can't say that I detected a right-wing vibe in the work.

hailesaladdie - 15 Sep 2020 18:18:34 (#13 of 57)

The old saying is that the right find the left misguided; the left find the right evil. I think there's a little truth in that (says an old lefty).

That said, if we're dealing in generalisations, I do find more charm on the right, and more comradeship on the left. The majority, naturally, sit somewhere in the middle.

Jacob_Richter - 15 Sep 2020 18:20:05 (#14 of 57)

I see GP is basing this upon his experience of Left and Right in the USA. Does he really prefer the KKK to the NAACP? I suspect this is one of those occasions where a sleb opens his/her mouth on politics and puts his foot in it. My advice, which I know he seeks, is to stick to daubing.

SharkPatoo - 15 Sep 2020 18:20:42 (#15 of 57)

You're just jealous of his teapots there.

GyratingTrampoline - 15 Sep 2020 18:23:44 (#16 of 57)

It's natural for leftwing people to display more antipathy towards rightwing people, because rightwing people are cunts. They always adopt the shittiest point of view on everything.

For example a year ago whether to wear masks wasn't an issue, now it is and they're the ones refusing to wear them. Whatever political issue is at the fore in 1, 5, 10 years time we can't guess but we can already predict that they'll have a mean, obnoxious take on it. Why would I want to be friendly and open to people like that?

champagnerocker - 15 Sep 2020 18:42:06 (#17 of 57)

Do we accurately know the voting habits of people who refuse to wear masks?

SharkPatoo - 15 Sep 2020 18:43:46 (#18 of 57)

Something something gammon.

mingmong - 15 Sep 2020 18:48:00 (#19 of 57)

Haven't read the article, but I'd imagine Perry is contrasting mid western country types with snarky urban sophisticates. The fact that the former may also tend to vote republican and the latter democrat could be regarded as incidental or it could be seen as essential, depending on what point the observer wishes to make

Agree. Not sure why the poster up thread picked the KKK and the NAACP as opposites.
