Icons, successes, talents etc that you’re just not impressed by.

And why.

Meryl Streep.

She just plays Meryl Streep in every film.

I mean, she’s OK and all that, but nothing special compared to hundreds of far more interesting and talented actors.

FleurDuMal - 06 Dec 2020 12:29:43 (#2 of 1013)

Gwyneth Paltrow. Smug, smug, smug.

Tinymcsmithy - 06 Dec 2020 12:31:03 (#3 of 1013)

Oh fuck yes, agreed.

slicey - 06 Dec 2020 12:31:18 (#4 of 1013)

Brian Blessed. It's just shouting.

browserbutton - 06 Dec 2020 12:32:35 (#5 of 1013)

Ian McEwan -- his best work was published in 1975.

Tinymcsmithy - 06 Dec 2020 12:33:29 (#6 of 1013)

Not sure if this is controversial, but I’ll add Kenneth Branagh while i remember.

Same reasons as Streep.

The Alistair Sim Scrooge.

He plays a very good Alistair Sim. None better.

But the Muppet and George C Scott versions are better.

juts chin

kvelertak - 06 Dec 2020 12:34:43 (#8 of 1013)

Amis father and son. Kingsley wrote from nausea, Martin writes to nauseate. Not entirely untalented, but still.

Tinymcsmithy - 06 Dec 2020 12:36:06 (#9 of 1013)

Natalie Portman - simply really bad at acting.

ReverendBlueJeans - 06 Dec 2020 12:36:57 (#10 of 1013)

21st century superhero films. Mince. Without exception.

Grow up, all of you.

Dementor - 06 Dec 2020 12:38:26 (#11 of 1013)

Winter Soldier is a pretty spot-on action movie, though.

Macpaddy - 06 Dec 2020 12:43:51 (#12 of 1013)

#10. Hooray.

mingmong - 06 Dec 2020 12:44:46 (#13 of 1013)

#10 I haven't watched any of them, but I know this to be true.

peally - 06 Dec 2020 12:45:57 (#14 of 1013)

Streep was really good in Big Little Lies where she played the old, crazy, with a slight tic lady really well

OldLefty - 06 Dec 2020 12:51:16 (#15 of 1013)

Sean Connery was superb at playing Sean Connery. Unfortunately, the lead character in many of his films wasn't a Sean Connery. Marnie would have been a great film with a decent lead actor.

cozzer - 06 Dec 2020 12:54:49 (#16 of 1013)

Gwyneth Paltrow. Smug, smug, smug

I think you’re on the wrong thread.

Arjuna - 06 Dec 2020 12:59:52 (#17 of 1013)

and arguably not all that controversial

ISawMontyKissingSantaCl - 06 Dec 2020 13:00:30 (#18 of 1013)

She just plays Meryl Streep in every film.

No she doesn't. She played Hyacinth Bucket in Julie & Julia.

Santada - 06 Dec 2020 13:06:38 (#19 of 1013)

Harold Pinter

'"Blair is a Nazi

who smells of poo

and if you vote for him

then so do you".

That sort of thing.

Ginmonkey - 06 Dec 2020 13:15:44 (#20 of 1013)

Killing Eve was tedious and mostly annoying.
