I don't know about you. But, looks over shoulder, comrade team leader has been ever so perky since the start of Covid. I think that they quite like the "teams" system as they can see who is talking to who.

harryhaller - 06 Mar 2021 01:25:45 (#2 of 27)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECHELON

Stasi was never an issue - but it made good propaganda. For the record - all the Stasi records went to the USA so they could carry on the good work.

They returned a CD with the data to the German government - so you could see who was in charge.

But Echelon was public knowledge under Thatcher and in comparison, the Stasi, with card files, was peanuts.

In the meantime NSA was caught bugging Merkel and MEPs phones etc.

Oh and a employee at the BND (German Secret Service) was convicted recently for spying... for the USA. (I'm surpised it wasn't hushed up)

Still, after the telephone bugging.. well.

But the pidgeon brains always to say "Stasi" - it's a phonetical thing, that's all.

Now if anyone wanted to know what went on in the UK during WW1 and WW2.... but of course, no one does.

Martin Rauch has embarked on another adventure.

Now if anyone wanted to know what went on in the UK during WW1 and WW2.... but of course, no one does.

Not really unless its interesting or reflects on later events. 1989 is about the cold war. WW1 and WW2 are long gone. The Cold War is a new generation who didn't have rationing and liked shopping.

harryhaller - 06 Mar 2021 01:51:49 (#5 of 27)

Who is Martin Rauch?

robespere - 06 Mar 2021 01:56:10 (#6 of 27)

One of the protagonists. Check out the link old dude. This is about TV stasis and spies and how our mirror Eastern Bloc public/people were like us but without the "glamour", but still retaining a certain style.

harryhaller - 06 Mar 2021 02:02:50 (#7 of 27)

Just after re-unification, the East Germans were saying that they liked the shopping, but they found the attitudes at work disgusting. Instead of being comradely, people were competitive.

Reminded me of what Helmut Schmidt campaigned against in one election - an "elbow-society".

robespere - 06 Mar 2021 02:07:00 (#8 of 27)

The thing about the Deutschland series is it just about us as it about living in East Germany. I think that is why people like it.

cozzer - 06 Mar 2021 08:22:49 (#9 of 27)

But the pidgeon brains

Pigeon, ffs

Delighted_User - 06 Mar 2021 09:06:45 (#10 of 27)

Just after re-unification, the East Germans were saying that they liked the shopping, but they found the attitudes at work disgusting. Instead of being comradely, people were competitive.

Would anyone have expected anything else? There was no point in being competitive at work; even if you were to get a financial bonus for being outstanding at whatever it was, everyone had more money than they needed, as there wasn't a great deal to buy with it. Hence the attraction of glittering shops in the West.

HouseOfLametta - 06 Mar 2021 09:08:42 (#11 of 27)

Now if anyone wanted to know what went on in the UK during WW1 and WW2.... but of course, no one does

It is readily available and entirely irrelevant.

FrankieTeardrop - 06 Mar 2021 09:13:46 (#12 of 27)

Martin Rauch has embarked on another adventure.

It’s all smoke and mirrors, I’m sure

RosyLovelady - 06 Mar 2021 09:15:56 (#13 of 27)

What does Der Spiegel say about it?

robespere - 07 Mar 2021 16:57:54 (#14 of 27)

Pidgeon is alright that is the old spellinng.

robespere - 07 Mar 2021 17:01:56 (#15 of 27)

A different type of Downfall.

"We are not Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun. There are opportunities."

danceratendoftime - 07 Mar 2021 17:10:16 (#16 of 27)

Believable that it's "Did he really mean what I thought he said", rather than instant euphoria.

RosyLovelady - 08 Mar 2021 09:02:59 (#17 of 27)

All right ffs.

robespere - 12 Mar 2021 23:21:30 (#18 of 27)
