Sir Jimmy Savile dies aged 84

http://news.sky.com/home/uk-news/article/16099015

So:

  • Kiddly fiddler?
  • Corpse toucher?
  • Other? (please specify)
  • All of the above?

Coslefacteur - 21 Nov 2012 14:43:20 (#8521 of 17115)

Am I right in thinking that members of the Savile family have accused his great niece of bringing shame on the family?

This must be terribly difficult for them but it does seem an odd, and futile, reaction.

Back to Savile. A big noise has been made about dropping any TOTP featuring Savile from the schedules in case his retrospective nonce vapour infects us.

However Paul Gambaccini's History Of Music Radio on BBC Radio 2 yesterday happily played a lengthy reminiscence by Sir Jim'll about his Luxemburg days.

Cols,

I was wrong. It was 80% not 90% of men convicted of sexual violence who have a history of being sexually abused by a woman.

  • 59% (Petrovich and Templer, 1984)

  • 66% (Groth, 1979)

  • 80% (Briere and Smiljanich, 1993)

Indeed. But the power of denial is not always rational.

What is everybody on here doing reading shite newspapers?

Leftie - 21 Nov 2012 20:27:26 (#8527 of 17115)

Going back to the Nolans, they've done a great job of shouting down their own sister when she made allegations about their Dad.

Anybody who came forward and apologised is potentially in deep shit. Never accept liability with these corrupt sharks. Idiots.

Brunothecat - 21 Nov 2012 21:31:51 (#8529 of 17115)

That rather suggests to me he doesn't want to spend any of his easily acquired dosh on lawyers, so if the police can get some pickings well and good, the public purse picks up the tab for failed investigation and prosecutions.

I think Dear Lord!McAlpine might be underestimating the Tweeting flocks. I have a feeling the little tweet-tweeters might go all Hitchcock's The Birds on him if he goes through with criminal charges.

Perhaps he'll store the cash in the same warehouse where he keeps his art collection, where nobody else will ever see it.

Streisand Effect.

I don't think that can apply here.

McAlpine isn't trying to keep these proceedings quiet.

Ripliad - 21 Nov 2012 22:21:12 (#8534 of 17115)

ITV programme Exposure, on Savile, at 10.30.

This is sounding pretty shocking, and it's only about two minutes in.

moto748 - 22 Nov 2012 07:30:16 (#8536 of 17115)

Missed the first few minutes but saw the rest. I think ITV did a decent, if not outstanding job on these two programmes. That guy Frayn (sp?) who was running Broadmoor; Jeez.

1966. When JS, Arnie, J Paul Getty (the world's richest man) and Kenneth Anger were all bessie mates and hung out with body builders:

Learn your libel law.

An apology and an offer of amends, particualarly when on the terms of the offended person, makes it very hard to go after them.

This is more likely to be going after those who have NOT apologised and paid their fiver to charity.
