The Book Of Souls, or Just Another IRON MAIDEN album

I am listening to the new IRON MAIDEN album.

It sounds like all other IRON MAIDEN albums. What other bands effectively release the same album over and over again?

Status Quo.

Do they even make records still?

Moschops - 15 Sep 2015 10:52:51 (#3 of 285)

ACDC, at least post Back In Black

TRaney - 15 Sep 2015 10:53:37 (#4 of 285)

Status Quo.

I watched their unplugged thing the other night. Although not surprising it was still striking how the format exposed the flimisness of the songs.

Maroon 5

Metallica's Death Magnetic was clever.

Rather than being the same album as what came before, it sounded like someone doing an impression of Metallica.

Back on topic any of those california 'punk' bands could be accused of releasing the same album again and again.

That's demonstrably pish.

It's by quite some margin the best album they've released since Live Aftee Death; the first I've listened to all the way through more than three times.

Maisen's catalogue breaks down into three distinct phaes; the punky first couple, the rock/pop leading up to the live album, then the shite that they've produced since 1987.

The current album belongs back in the middle period. And the game's good fun, too.

I beg to disagree, it sounds nothing like Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind or Powerslave. It does however have a very similar feel to the last few albums since A Matter of Life and Death where they've been wearing their prog influences a little more overtly as they did back in the late 80s with Seventh Son.

As albums go it's not bad though I could do without the 18 minute long final track which sounds like Bruce has decided to move into musical theatre and is auditioning for a part in Les Mis.

God that's tempting in a so bad it's good sort of way

Well, this is only the second time through so I may change my view.

Mind you this:

the shite that they've produced since 1987.

demonstrates that you know nothing of Maiden, as Seventh Son and Fear of the Dark are both excellent.

Live Aftee Death

Was that the Somerset album, full title 'Live Aftee Death, My Luvver'?

TRaney - 15 Sep 2015 11:06:05 (#13 of 285)

Oh God! My illusions are shattered

How is it possible for one person to be so comprehensively wrong?

RoscoePColtrane - 15 Sep 2015 11:08:43 (#15 of 285)

Pfagh. You people are idiots.

Eligelis - 15 Sep 2015 11:10:34 (#16 of 285)

though I could do without the 18 minute long final track

and is that just the length of the Kettledrum solo?

TRaney - 15 Sep 2015 11:11:13 (#17 of 285)

.....<resists>

Well, they could post on an internet news and talk forum.

Don't know Tommy but somehow you are managing it, Seventh Son is a magnificent album, one of their best and widely acknowledged as such. My personal favourite though is A matter of Life and Death.

<sigh> left you a tap-in, TR.
