Infantile Melody

A thread for songs that sound like a 3 year old composed them for their own amusement, then burbled or bellowed them for three hours straight:

Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman, The Knack - My Sharona, Pink - So What, and....

Slade and their descendents, Oasis, score high on this.

popstar7 - 15 May 2021 14:58:48 (#2 of 28)

And Katy Perry. Although the Katy Perry songs I like most are the most basic ones.

RosyLovelady - 15 May 2021 14:59:56 (#3 of 28)

T Rex: Hot Love

and the rest.

barkis - 15 May 2021 15:03:10 (#4 of 28)

Velvet Underground, I'm Sticking with You.

RosyLovelady - 15 May 2021 15:07:20 (#5 of 28)

Incredible String Band: The Hedgehog's Song

and the rest.

bossab2 - 15 May 2021 16:14:29 (#6 of 28)

Wheels on the bus.

popstar7 - 15 May 2021 16:19:25 (#7 of 28)

McCartney's fuckawful Hello Goodbye.

frantastic - 15 May 2021 16:20:48 (#8 of 28)

Yellow Submarine.

peacalmer - 15 May 2021 17:05:08 (#9 of 28)

The Frog Song.

Je t'aime (moi non plus) has lots of "Ah, wee shit aim" in it so I thought it was about toilet training.

Peacock - 17 May 2021 09:13:50 (#10 of 28)

controversial thread

RosyLovelady - 17 May 2021 09:40:43 (#11 of 28)

The Controversial Threads were a great band. Their compositions used hesitation, repetition and deviation in abundance.

uranrising - 17 May 2021 10:32:43 (#12 of 28)

controversial thread on JtT? Shirley not.

HouseOfLametta - 17 May 2021 10:37:09 (#13 of 28)

The Brookside theme tune.

FrankieTeardrop - 17 May 2021 10:47:31 (#14 of 28)

Ten "why oh why can't all music be as sophisticated as the stuff I like" points.

carterbrandon - 17 May 2021 11:12:29 (#15 of 28)

The stuff I like being trad folk, as you know. Which of course is massively sophisticated, isn't it?

FrankieTeardrop - 19 May 2021 12:55:58 (#16 of 28)

Would you describe the melodies used by trad folk as infantile?

AlanII - 19 May 2021 12:59:04 (#17 of 28)

Je t'aime (moi non plus) has lots of "Ah, wee shit aim" in it so I thought it was about toilet training.

Heh.

AlanII - 19 May 2021 12:59:46 (#18 of 28)

The Controversial Threads were a great band. Their compositions used hesitation, repetition and deviation in abundance.

They were good until they sold out and went over to Comment is Free.

carterbrandon - 19 May 2021 13:01:01 (#19 of 28)

#15: Some are, some aren't; infantile isn't the same as simple. The Chiner's Song tune (as sung by Shirley Collins) is infantile, Shepherds Hey also. Whereas any number of shanties are simple, but not infantile.

FrankieTeardrop - 19 May 2021 13:07:41 (#20 of 28)

How does one, objectively, tell the difference between infantile and simple?
