Do you mean the middle eight?

thisonehasalittlehat - 18 May 2021 12:37:31 (#4 of 50)

e.g. the middle bit in "We Can Work It Out" by the Beatles where it goes all whooooo and less bippidy-bop?

mingmong - 18 May 2021 12:38:36 (#5 of 50)

or the melancholy sequence in the middle of Blur's Country House

the bit between 2.20-2.40

I mean it's a good point that in the old days when singles were so big and at 45rpm lasted for so long one had to write a song that filled that space without too much monotony thus defining the form of contemporary pop, if that's what you mean? It do think that is what you were saying in your analysis of the perpetual meloncholy of the teen idol.

Plus it gives Graham Coxon the chance to do the plinky-plonk bits he likes.

In the middle of Dire Straits' Tunnel of Love it almost grinds to a halt, at the bit where he recalls going to the Spanish City fairground as a kid.

Question - The Moody Blues. Not a middle 8, just the middle bit of the song, slow & quiet, while beginning and end are turn-up-loud.

I find this style of thread in the music folder quite interesting in a way, its like a group of colour-blind people trying to describe a Jackson Pollock painting.

Chank is considerably smarter than yo

Early Sabbath was noted for having a lot of songs with a slow and melodic middle eight, Gumly.

ChankNolen - 18 May 2021 15:48:32 (#17 of 50)

'Chank is considerably smarter than yo'

That doesn't necessarily follow.

HouseOfLametta - 18 May 2021 16:54:39 (#18 of 50)

That's true.
