It's not obscurity. It can be licensing issues or resistance by the artiste

bossab2 - 19 May 2021 13:11:18 (#2 of 28)

No sign of the Jazz Defectors actual album...

Just an odd track on a compilation

Agaliarept - 19 May 2021 13:14:39 (#3 of 28)

I was gonna say it doesn't have my band's effort but I just searched and it's there!

I feel like this is the sort of thing I should've been aware of.

Pinkgum - 19 May 2021 13:22:41 (#4 of 28)

Early terminal cheesecake last time I looked, 'angels in pigtails' and 'johnny townmouse'

I had them both on vinyl - but they seem to have disappeared

crackfox - 19 May 2021 13:28:44 (#5 of 28)

Randomly: Crooked Mile by Microdisney (the last time I looked), one of the great lost LPs of the 80s.

Also, there's quite a bit of modern jazz which doesn't seem to have made it eg the early works of Andy Sheppard.

A friend of mine who knows about this stuff tells me that Spotify are less and less likely to add new stuff now, as most of their traffic/money comes from a relatively small pool of music.

WibbleAgain - 19 May 2021 13:32:41 (#6 of 28)

Everything produced by Hyperion, and a few other independent labels.

bossab2 - 19 May 2021 13:33:04 (#7 of 28)

Aha !!

They have however added Good Technology by Red Guitars sometime over the last couple of years.

crackfox - 19 May 2021 13:34:34 (#8 of 28)

Hull's finest.

When the Housemartins called themselves the city's fourth best band back in the 80s, everyone thought it was a joke, but I always knew it was more or less true.

Peacock - 20 May 2021 03:21:47 (#9 of 28)

De La Soul

Surely you could have phoned into Absolute 80s radio and requested that.

MontyPeculiar - 20 May 2021 15:16:57 (#11 of 28)

It can be licensing issues or resistance by the artiste

Van Morrison - Tupelo Honey.

Yes, it could be licensing, although his previous albums Moondance and His Band & the Street Choir are both on Spotify, as are the following albums St Dominic's Preview and Hard Nose the Highway. All five were released on Warner Bros, so at a guess it may not be licensing.

More likely it's just Morrison being an arse.

moto748 - 20 May 2021 15:18:18 (#12 of 28)

Surely not?!

Shadrack22 - 20 May 2021 15:35:18 (#13 of 28)

Only the first three albums by Euros Childs (nothing since 2007)

They don’t have Helen of Troy by John Cale

Or Classics and Collectibles by Scott Walker.

widenation - 21 May 2021 03:21:59 (#14 of 28)

Bong.

Tadagee - 21 May 2021 07:14:00 (#15 of 28)

Birthday Party precursors The Boys Next Door.

widenation - 22 May 2021 02:43:42 (#16 of 28)

I'm sure I have some Spiral Tribe somewhere...

MontyPeculiar - 22 May 2021 17:55:15 (#17 of 28)

Another couple of albums I've looked for that aren't there:

Virginia Astley - From Gardens Where We Feel Secure

Misty in Roots - Live at the Counter Eurovision 79

carterbrandon - 22 May 2021 23:12:12 (#18 of 28)

Whole swathes of my 70s and 80s folk are not only not on Spotify, but not available at all. Since the second-largest label (Leader / Trailer) was bought up by a litigious contrary bastard who refused to sell the stock (presumably to use scarcity to inflate the value), then died, and his bastard surviving family seem to be continuing the policy.

dmlc133 - 22 May 2021 23:17:03 (#19 of 28)

Spotify has three songs by The Man From Delmonte on a compilation album but nothing else. It’s quite hard to find their stuff online anywhere tbf.

widenation - 22 May 2021 23:43:25 (#20 of 28)

I'm amazed at what is on Spotify now which I didn't expect to be.
