First ABBA Songs in 40 Years

Very emotional for a lot of people, understandably.

Not sure my words can do the event justice.

Can yours?

If those songs weren't by Abba... hmm.

Ok for the fans but run-of-the-mill musical numbers for me. No actual decent melodies. They won't be played on Magic in fifty years.

Björn again and again,

Great. The world needs more septuagenerian bing-a-bong.

phantlers - 03 Sep 2021 08:00:54 (#4 of 94)

There was an advertorial on BBC Breakfast just niw with some inarticulate 20 something and Kim Wilde on a video kink effusing about Saabba.

Their Greatest Hits are on heavy rotation on daytime commercial radio, with all their adolescent obsessions. I despise them.

bossab2 - 03 Sep 2021 09:01:05 (#5 of 94)

Ah.

The Unexpected Tax Bill Album

frantastic - 03 Sep 2021 09:19:13 (#6 of 94)

Aha, surely.

The Unexpected Tax Bill Album

Really very unlikely.

NoobRomeo - 03 Sep 2021 09:27:10 (#8 of 94)

I find it amusing. Can't get worked up about this at all; if the product is good enough to get people to part with their money then fair play to the Swedes. I have little interest in hearing any of it though.

tasselhoff - 03 Sep 2021 09:36:34 (#9 of 94)

I think it's interesting historically, and that they say it felt like they hadn't been apart for long when they got the creative juices flowing. But I won't be going out of my way to give it a listen.

Dementor - 03 Sep 2021 10:10:50 (#10 of 94)

The world needs more septuagenerian bing-a-bong.

That Andre Rieu is like cap-nip for the late middle-age+ and is ker-ching for him.

thePiMan - 03 Sep 2021 10:13:16 (#11 of 94)

I knew bossab would be overwhelmingly positive about this

TommyDGNR8 - 03 Sep 2021 11:42:49 (#12 of 94)

I'm as much a poppy-Abba fan as the next raised-on-radio 50-something, but...

(a) Their last album was fucking awful, introspective guff. Less Fleetwood Mac, more Smiths-do-Eurovision.

(b) Given what B&B have been doing in the last 40 years, why are people surprised it sounds a bit "musical theatre"?

(c) The much more interesting news is the idea of 3000 people* buying tickets every night to watch a glorified 3D film - a project they have enough confidence in to build a new fucking London theatre specially for it.

*And, yes, I suspect I'll be one of them, eventually.

Definitely not for the money (money, money)

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/sep/02/abba-reunite-for-voyage-first-new-album-in-40-years

Asked what the best thing about being in Abba is, Andersson replied, with refreshing candour: “Not having to worry about the money. You are free to do anything, to keep on writing the music.”

Can’t says I’m excited by this development but get that lots of people will be.

I was quite intrigued by the digital bit as shown in the video. Looks like they are going to have 70s (decade) ABBA heads on their now (70s, personal ages) bodies.

HerrWalrus - 03 Sep 2021 12:35:03 (#14 of 94)

I wonder if all this 70s nostalgia is amplified by the fact it was the last era before first computers, and then the Internet, became widespread.

Arjuna - 03 Sep 2021 12:43:58 (#15 of 94)

I shall not be attending the concert in person but will send a digital representation of myself.

breakfast - 03 Sep 2021 12:44:51 (#16 of 94)

With your head from which year?

Arjuna - 03 Sep 2021 12:47:02 (#17 of 94)

I will make my mind up after I have chosen which arse I shall be wearing

Arjuna - 03 Sep 2021 12:48:32 (#18 of 94)

Are the vocals going to be recorded or will Agnetha and Frida sing live their own gaffs every night?

breakfast - 03 Sep 2021 12:49:49 (#19 of 94)

All recorded I think.

Arjuna - 03 Sep 2021 12:56:31 (#20 of 94)

Shame

I would still go if they recreated Frida going bonkers in her cat t-shirt
