BBC 21 Best Albums of 2021

Aye, right...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-59699977

Odd that they bend over backwardz to accommodate da kidz, who are the very people who pay least attention to 'albums'.

Now then, now then, queue with a bit of decorum, social distancing and all that, there's room in the thread for everyone...

Lawlsie - 23 Dec 2021 14:48:57 (#2 of 32)

What is BBC21? And what happened to BBC5-20!?

ReverendBlueJeans - 23 Dec 2021 14:54:11 (#3 of 32)

Ah, you have to be invited to watch BBC 21.

You, er, haven't been?

FrankieTeardrop - 23 Dec 2021 14:56:58 (#4 of 32)

What makes you think they've bent over backwards to accommodate "da kidz"? Pharoah Sanders being at number 2?

People of all ages like all music.

ReverendBlueJeans - 23 Dec 2021 15:00:29 (#5 of 32)

People of all ages like all music.

No they don't. That's why radio stations and playlists are segmented the way they are.

HoHoHoff - 23 Dec 2021 15:02:05 (#6 of 32)

Still, at least we can all agree that Coldplay stopping creating new music soon-ish is a good thing.

FrankieTeardrop - 23 Dec 2021 15:02:30 (#7 of 32)

So you live in a world where certain kinds of music are "for" a certain demographic?

That's really weird

FrankieTeardrop - 23 Dec 2021 15:04:03 (#8 of 32)

Radio stations are segmented by genre, not age

FrankieTeardrop - 23 Dec 2021 15:06:19 (#9 of 32)

This should be on the list, though, incredible record:

Good luck saying which age demographic it is "for"

Shadrack22 - 23 Dec 2021 15:13:30 (#10 of 32)

2 (Floating Points/Pharaoh Sanders ), 16 (Dry Cleaning) and 17 (The Weather Station) are on my Christmas list.

Omissions: Jane Weaver - Flock, Saint Etienne - I've Been Trying to Tell You, Django Django - Glowing in the Dark, The Go Team - Get Up Sequences Part One, Marianne Faithfull - She Walks in Beauty, Gruff Rhys - Seeking New Gods.

FrankieTeardrop - 23 Dec 2021 15:16:36 (#11 of 32)

Did you ever hear this collaboration between Floating Points and Moroccan musician Maalem Mahmoud Guinia?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtIuWO2_RGY

Beautiful record. All the kidz loved it.

Shadrack22 - 23 Dec 2021 15:17:17 (#12 of 32)

The Guardian has Self Esteem at number one.

Shadrack22 - 23 Dec 2021 15:17:57 (#13 of 32)

I’ll have a listen later Frankie. Thanks.

FrankieTeardrop - 23 Dec 2021 15:22:20 (#14 of 32)

The Guardian has Self Esteem at number one.

Interesting that in this review what it sounds like takes up half a sentence, whereas what they lyrics are about take up several paragraphs:

Shadrack22 - 23 Dec 2021 15:27:43 (#15 of 32)

Well that’s the sociology as a substitute for music journalism theory.

I like what I’ve heard of Nine by Sault.

Ebadlun - 23 Dec 2021 15:27:56 (#16 of 32)

Pretty much par for the course.

FrankieTeardrop - 23 Dec 2021 15:31:16 (#17 of 32)

I like what I’ve heard of Nine by Sault.

What list is that on?

FrankieTeardrop - 23 Dec 2021 15:32:27 (#18 of 32)

Looking at what I seem to choose to listen to - I guess I go for more devotional music over emotional music - hence Self Esteem doesn't really resonate

(just setting up another dichotomy for you, Shadders)

Shadrack22 - 23 Dec 2021 15:32:34 (#19 of 32)

The Guardian.

FrankieTeardrop - 23 Dec 2021 15:33:02 (#20 of 32)

Just having a listen - sounds good
