Well, what do you think?

tasselhoff - 29 Sep 2012 09:00:21 (#2 of 12225)

What do we think about what? You've not even stated why you're living proof.

Much33 - 29 Sep 2012 09:03:36 (#3 of 12225)

Okay Tass, I'm African, to be more specific, Kenyan. I'm an accountant but not a CPA in the strict sense of the word.

tasselhoff - 29 Sep 2012 09:06:37 (#4 of 12225)

FWIW, England seems a lot more migrant-friendly that the rest of Europe. I imagine your reception in the US depends a lot on where you live too.

Much33 - 29 Sep 2012 09:09:53 (#5 of 12225)

Not really, so I imagine (or not), but other immigrants' experiences seem to indicate the same.

Much33 - 29 Sep 2012 09:19:12 (#6 of 12225)

Are you there Tass?

tasselhoff - 29 Sep 2012 09:20:26 (#7 of 12225)

Yes. I don't really know much about it to be honest, but I'm happy your new(ish?) life seems to be working out for you.

Much33 - 29 Sep 2012 09:24:06 (#8 of 12225)

Been here for some fifteen odd years, so not exactly new...

Much33 - 29 Sep 2012 09:29:28 (#9 of 12225)

Notes and queries too obscure for this then Tass, ha? I needed to hide for a little bit.

That's me who deleted a double message.

I don't know if it's too obscure. I just think most UK posters are still in bed, the lazy gits.

Much33 - 29 Sep 2012 09:36:45 (#13 of 12225)

What? It's 1:30AM here in Sacramento right now!

PlunkettDoone - 29 Sep 2012 09:39:04 (#14 of 12225)

The US is much friendlier to immigrants than the UK

Is it? What experience do you have of the UK?

CheBoludo - 29 Sep 2012 09:40:17 (#15 of 12225)

I'd have expected the US to be more immigrant friendly, Much. It was built by a wider variety of immigrants more recently than the UK.

Hundredsand - 29 Sep 2012 09:42:09 (#16 of 12225)

I have heard from other persons that the glass ceiling is lower in the UK than in the USA.

Much33 - 29 Sep 2012 09:42:34 (#17 of 12225)

Granted, not much P, other than being exposed to what I thought it was in primary school.

PlunkettDoone - 29 Sep 2012 09:42:58 (#18 of 12225)

I'd have expected the US to be more immigrant friendly

Except if you're Hispanic or from one of the Caribbean islands (excluding Cuba).

Much33 - 29 Sep 2012 09:43:56 (#19 of 12225)

But I already said!

CheBoludo - 29 Sep 2012 09:48:26 (#20 of 12225)

I get your point, Plunkett. It does depend where you're from, where you're arriving at and how many are settling at the time. I can well imagine Cubans getting a rough deal for historical reasons.
