1. The Lancet said in a recent paper that within two decades child mortality rates in nearly every country in the world will be at the rates they were in the UK and USA in 1980

We had a great day at Longleat. Check out the huge Chinese lights and the bonkers Christmas tree. Kids will love it. Me, it was the bat cave. So cool.

TommyDGNR8 - 14 Nov 2014 21:01:50 (#4 of 2126)

My ex freaked in the butterfly house at Longleat about 30 years ago.

Had to drag her out holding onto both hands to stop her squashing something red, white, blue and endangered in her hair.

This year has been the best I've had financially since I went full time self employed in 2004

Tenesmus - 14 Nov 2014 22:13:01 (#6 of 2126)

The beers are on you then!

Anchorman - 14 Nov 2014 22:47:25 (#7 of 2126)

It's all relative! Still earning less than I was when I gave up employed work 28 years ago but I'm much happier job wise than I was in those days... wouldn't mind the money I earned then though!

AmbroseChapel - 14 Nov 2014 23:12:47 (#8 of 2126)

The Ebola guy in New York is fine.

KizzyK - 15 Nov 2014 20:43:36 (#15 of 2126)

This year has been the best I've had financially since I went full time self employed in 2004

Thats great, mine has gone up each year since going freelance in 2012 and might even reach my old teaching income if I'm lucky in the next two years. Being freelance has made a hugely positive difference to my health too.

Anchorman - 15 Nov 2014 20:46:55 (#16 of 2126)

Being self employed means I spend( wet weather excluded) most of my working days doing something I enjoy whereas before i spent lots of my working day doing something I really didn't enjoy much at all.

I've had to downsize considerably and reduce my expectations in lots of areas but doing this,on the whole, was the best thing I ever did.

I could work harder to up my income but then that would make me enjoy my work less so it would be self defeating

KizzyK - 15 Nov 2014 20:52:30 (#17 of 2126)

Yep same here. In fact my ex's solicitor told me I should work more hours and earn more money so I could get a bigger mortgage and give him more money for the house but funnily enough it didn't feel like much of an incentive...

Pentecost - 15 Nov 2014 20:54:21 (#18 of 2126)

High five, or whatever shit thing we say the noo. Way to go. Right on. Or, as people of my generation used to say; Oh, I say! Well done!

WibbleAgain - 15 Nov 2014 21:08:18 (#19 of 2126)

Blessed are the ones content with their lot.

AmbroseChapel - 15 Nov 2014 22:02:40 (#20 of 2126)

Greece isn't cooking the books? I'll always be suspicious.
