Friday night and the lights are low, looking out for the place to go - what do you remember about Britain in the 1970s?

That long lost golden country of smiling faces, red brick streets, socialist sunshine, proper trains and pop music, real football and cricket, heroic trade unions, traditional pubs and clubs, red phone boxes and local bobbies.

Talk about it here.

It was dull; it came after the Swinging 60s.

All my memories of the 1970s have been replaced by false memories implanted by reading nostalgia threads on NTT

I remember walking to the Glam Rock White Dog Shit Mine for a 6am start, working all day for 71/2 New Punce and still having enough for a packet of Jimmy Saville flavour Spangles and a Ford Cortina.

Those were the days.

Top trumps. That green goo you used to play with. Toast toppers being the height of culinary imagination.

It was really cheap to travel to Britain. I got lots of pounds for my Deutschmarks and everything was less expensive than at home.

If your flares were the right length and width it looked like you ran on castors.

I was bouncing down the street once on my spacehopper, trying to avoid dropping my Aztec bar into white dogshit, when Jimmy Savile jumped out and told me and told me to clunk click!

Then he bummed me.

The 70s were brown and orange.

But not just in Britain. Bad taste is universal.
