What is the last thing you were given?

and/or you gave to someone

Anchorman - 06 Feb 2016 21:51:05 (#1 of 434)

Given- A wax jacket

Gave – half a Christmas cake

yumyum - 06 Feb 2016 21:58:13 (#2 of 434)

On Wednesday I was given a bunch of camellias by the brother of a resident where I work.

Gave - it's something I posted to moto today. Won't say what it is (birthday present).

Impedimenta - 06 Feb 2016 21:58:30 (#3 of 434)

Given - a French grammar book (thanks, Gigi!)

Gave - 2 Sharpies and some paper*

* I was sitting next to a very bored toddler at a swimming gala, whose parents only had an iPhone for him to play with. They'd taken that off him and he was grizzling, so I fished out my A4 pad and a couple of Sharpies, and he doodled happily away with his dad. Then I had to leave, so I sacrificed the Sharpies and a couple of sheets of paper.

foghorn - 06 Feb 2016 22:08:46 (#4 of 434)

Given - A digital microscope.

Gave - a fossilised fish.

surferboogiewhatever - 06 Feb 2016 22:12:58 (#5 of 434)

Given - some ginger biscuits from my husband's secret stash of post-swimming food (we hadn't been swimming so this is quite a grand gesture).

Gave - a vibrating toothbrush (blue) to #2 bblet.

yumyum - 06 Feb 2016 22:24:51 (#6 of 434)

I love the thought of a secret stash of biscuits.

Anchs - generous of someone to give you a wax jacket.

JennyRad - 06 Feb 2016 22:27:18 (#7 of 434)

I have an emergency chocolate cupboard - MrRad knows it's there, but doesn't get emergency chocolate out, he only asks me to get it. It is, on reflection, a rather stupid shared habit.

JennyRad - 06 Feb 2016 22:28:27 (#8 of 434)

Er - I think the last thing I was given was, arguably, an engagement ring. Although it was bought from shared funds, so in some ways it doesn't count.

If it wasn't that, I think it would be a bottle of prosecco from a plumber apologising for having not noticed a pipe in trouble when redoing our bathroom.

yumyum - 06 Feb 2016 22:29:39 (#9 of 434)

In my book an engagement ring counts. Congratulations, Jenny!

JennyRad - 06 Feb 2016 22:31:12 (#10 of 434)

Thanks, yumyum! I didn't mean to derail the thread, but it seemed fair to join in and answer the question when I'd already derailed it by commenting on things.

nolongerstumpy - 06 Feb 2016 22:36:25 (#11 of 434)

Gave - home made beef stew with equally homemade beer bread.

Given - a little box made from two domed half crowns of my birth year with a copper middle bit. The two halves come apart.

Lemongrab - 06 Feb 2016 22:36:33 (#12 of 434)

Congratulations, Jenny and Mr Jenny!

Bonusy - 06 Feb 2016 22:37:04 (#13 of 434)

given - plot of land and the requisite fencing (from the in-laws)

gave - Super Dinosaur vol 2 (to dottir)

nolongerstumpy - 06 Feb 2016 22:37:18 (#14 of 434)

Yes, congratulations!

toffle - 06 Feb 2016 22:40:59 (#15 of 434)

A bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It will have to go in a cupboard for a year or two, though.

A dinosaur-shooting game.

HouseOfLametta - 06 Feb 2016 22:49:40 (#16 of 434)

Clap. Both.

nolongerstumpy - 06 Feb 2016 22:51:25 (#17 of 434)

What sort of CNdP, toffle?

toffle - 06 Feb 2016 23:17:46 (#18 of 434)

2013 Red, 13.5% abv

That sounds OK to me.

Anchorman - 06 Feb 2016 23:21:00 (#19 of 434)

Anchs - generous of someone to give you a wax jacket.

Indeed and it's made by Hunter so a good quality one in nearly new condition.

It was given by a neighbour who has lost lots of weight and said he didn't need it anymore.

He's a very generous type. He's a good cook and his wife is veggie as am I and at least once a fortnight he drops off something delicious.

He used to be in the RAF and when he retired he gave me a Goretex jacket which I now wear for working in wet weather.

He has a dog (Charlie)and although it's not one I walk regularly (as he does that) I look after it if they're away for a few days or out for the evening.

I'm the local "go to" bloke for dog walking/sitting.

They know I love dog walking and living alone the company is good.

kentigern - 06 Feb 2016 23:28:36 (#20 of 434)

Congratulations to you, Jenny.

Given - a bottle of perfume (Pure by Jil Sander - quite nice).

Gave - a framed photo of a group of old friends. Recipient is one of the friends.
