Handshaking - Yes or No?

Apparently the handshake dates back to Ancient Greece and maybe even further back. Now, though, NOT shaking hands is one of the pieces of advice for avoiding infection with COVID 19. So, if we all permanently stopped shaking hands, what might replace it as a greeting, or gesture of agreement?

Namaste!

Chicken dance.

lammaMia - 26 Mar 2020 02:53:21 (#4 of 26)

Say handshake.

LemonGrass - 26 Mar 2020 03:24:36 (#5 of 26)

Covid 19, ffs!

An acronym pronounced as a word should not be all caps.

Saying "Covid 19, FFS" instead of a handshake would certainly keep people focussed but might start getting a bit samey after a while.

TheSwearingBear - 26 Mar 2020 04:40:54 (#7 of 26)

The next time someone offers their hand I'm going with COVID 19 FFS. (all caps)

If someone proffers their hand: "Have you washed that for 20 seconds?"

machiavelli - 26 Mar 2020 06:27:08 (#9 of 26)

We could go for the Muslim greeting of hand on heart. No contact or strange dances required. :-)

Arjuna - 26 Mar 2020 06:53:32 (#10 of 26)

stretch out hand as for shake, at the last second pull hand back, place thumb on nose and wiggle out stretched finders.

Tomnoddy - 26 Mar 2020 06:56:06 (#11 of 26)

Interesting concept. Where are my finders?

browserbutton - 26 Mar 2020 07:02:02 (#12 of 26)

If you have a forelock, why not tug it. People appreciate deference.

Bonusy - 26 Mar 2020 07:10:21 (#13 of 26)

A nod and say Alright?

This is what normal people do who aren't arsing around in management meetings anyway

raymie - 26 Mar 2020 07:17:03 (#14 of 26)

Live long and prosper, peeps

quartus - 26 Mar 2020 07:19:06 (#15 of 26)

Do the hokey cokey

An acronym pronounced as a word should not be all caps.

Only if you're following the utterly bizarre Guardian style guide.

HerrWalrus - 26 Mar 2020 09:10:30 (#17 of 26)

At least we are spared the exam hug this year.

LemonGrass - 26 Mar 2020 10:24:51 (#18 of 26)

#16 - Only if I follow British English.

IMHO, the Guardian style guide is a very good reference manual.

frantastic - 26 Mar 2020 10:54:20 (#19 of 26)

Jazz hands, yeah!

cozzer - 26 Mar 2020 11:07:29 (#20 of 26)

Only if I follow British English.

No, I don't think so.
