Does participating in online chat ( such as here) increase intelligence ?

nemo75 - 05 Aug 2021 14:03:29 (#2 of 29)

Doesn’t look like it !

popstar7 - 05 Aug 2021 14:04:14 (#3 of 29)

Irritation, maybe.

thisonehasalittlehat - 05 Aug 2021 14:04:56 (#4 of 29)

Well look, bossab, you've been posting for years.

TommyDGNR8 - 05 Aug 2021 14:04:57 (#5 of 29)

The evidence suggests otherwise.

Agaliarept - 05 Aug 2021 14:12:06 (#6 of 29)

Me? Smater?

Unpossible.

Pinkgum - 05 Aug 2021 14:13:45 (#7 of 29)

It depends on the chat surely and your own level of knowledge. I have learnt many things here (although I still don't understand proper grammar).

CarlosFandango - 05 Aug 2021 14:14:06 (#8 of 29)

To state the bleedin' obvious...

It depends.

wickeltisch - 05 Aug 2021 15:12:13 (#12 of 29)

It certainly has increased my knowledge of English expletives.

HER DAD!

bossab2 - 05 Aug 2021 17:00:40 (#14 of 29)

Well I think it does.

And JTT (and GUT before) have been 'educational'.

wickeltisch - 05 Aug 2021 17:24:59 (#15 of 29)

That reminds me of the 'intelligence' tests the Mail sometimes has where just general knowledge is tested (which is quite a different thing).

FleurDuMal - 05 Aug 2021 17:51:05 (#16 of 29)

It depends. Here, you probably learn something. Facebook, however, rots your brain cells quicker than a bottle of vodka a day.

Facebook is only a reflection of the company you keep.

Unfriend all the racists and conspiraloons, or at least mute them is my advice.

My FB wall is literally just a handful of close old friends posting youtube music vids.

wickeltisch - 05 Aug 2021 17:56:48 (#18 of 29)

But does learning something necessarily increase your intelligence or just your knowledge?

If the header asked Does it increase your knowledge I'd say yes right away.

Delighted_User - 05 Aug 2021 18:58:39 (#19 of 29)

Well, quite.

But some people are impermeable.

Same here. All my FB friends are people I’d be happy to have a drink with, a lot of artists and musicians and DJs posting interesting stuff.
