I'm half Dutch and last time my height was measured on one of those machines that GPS have I noticed I had lost a centimetre or so since I was in my 20s. But I thought this was due to ageing, not my genetic history.

I had always assumed that the shorter people had died out because they couldn't keep their heads above the water when the dykes burst. Improved dyke technology has probably changed this.

Diet rich in dairy products is the traditional explanation, I believe. Same reason East Asian-heritage people raised in the US are taller than their parents.
