Do you exist?

Visually, on the internet, that is.

Listening to a programme about facial recognition I was prompted to do an image search on my name.

Verdigris - 24 Sep 2021 10:17:32 (#1 of 53)

I'm pleased to say I don't exist.

Shadrack22 - 24 Sep 2021 11:21:37 (#2 of 53)

Well done for enduring half an hour of Aleks Krotoski.

Catspyjamas17 - 24 Sep 2021 11:30:20 (#3 of 53)

Yes, but unless you put in where I live as well, or where I work, most of the records are about an award-winning sculptor. Happy for that confusion.

Yeah, I do. And also appear twice on Google Street View (although not under my name obviously). In one of those appearances, my female companion at the outdoor table has a pixellated face, making it look a bit racy.

If I search for my real name: not outside of social media, no. If I search by my pen name I do though.

Tinymcsmithy - 24 Sep 2021 11:51:44 (#6 of 53)

As leader of the Conservative Party, I have a few mentions.

Tenesmus - 24 Sep 2021 12:35:40 (#7 of 53)

Outside Facebook, my name appears as a photograph credit on the village church website, and also appears to have been scraped off Facebook into a website about local markets.

PoppySeedBagel - 24 Sep 2021 14:00:46 (#8 of 53)

There is a fake me working as an Animal Behaviourist near where my sister lives.

staticgirl - 24 Sep 2021 13:07:30 (#9 of 53)

Nope although my faceless and highly stylised ID image does.

Atticus - 24 Sep 2021 14:16:41 (#10 of 53)

I post therefore I am.

#2 Tsk. I find her easy on the eye and quite an engaging speaker.

bossab2 - 24 Sep 2021 16:54:51 (#12 of 53)

Google seems to have lost me...

Antimatter - 24 Sep 2021 16:57:16 (#13 of 53)

I exist as a cat.

phantlers - 24 Sep 2021 15:59:20 (#14 of 53)

As rl name, anonymous. RL plus username, visible.

Eligelis - 24 Sep 2021 17:53:50 (#15 of 53)

Blimey. I searched using my username, and got an Interesting result or two. One was back to this site, and another was it being included in a sentence in Latin, in a C19 legal document.

I put it into google translate, and apparently Eligelis from Latin into English becomes “You choose”. I never knew that.

I use the name after remembering it from a dream, from 30 years ago, seeing it engraved on a stone 3 sided pillar in a piece of heathland.

Two actual pictures of me with an image search on my own name. An image search for 'ReverendBlueJeans' is much more interesting. A few of Neil Diamond, obviously, but I also learn there's a band of elderly rockers in the USA who call themselves Reverend Blue Jeans.

Agaliarept - 06 Oct 2021 11:43:45 (#18 of 53)

Searching by my real name brings up about half a million south and central american guys. I'm sure I'm on there but I must be way down the list.

My nickname brings up my Twitter account about half way down the first page of search results though.

Policywatcher - 06 Oct 2021 12:14:20 (#19 of 53)

Searching by my real name brings up several people in IT and other fields that people might have worked out as being related from my posts here.

Just not me.

And the ones that used to appear and were about me, no longer appear, which is slightly annoying as some of them were quite good. Makes me feel a little... erased...

Ah well - time marches on us all.

pranzingfrogg - 06 Oct 2021 12:37:55 (#20 of 53)

Searching my real name brings up several accounts of trials in different jurisdictions for various misdeeds, and a few death notices. I’m innocent of everything and still alive, I think.
