What were you doing on this day ten years ago (13 January 2012)?

Talk about it here.

Booked some train tickets to come home from the Lakes.

Mid planning a trip to the US in the summer.

My wife was going away for the weekend to see a friend.

Was in the middle of two particularly convoluted job interview processes (got offered both in the end).

I'd have on the 37th floor of the Citibank building in Canary Wharf planning the testing of the telecoms and data network for the 2012 Olympics.

A quick glance at Google Photos shows we were on a beach in Cuba drinking cocktails. That would do very nicely now, please and thankyou.

Apparently starting a cross stitch project for my Dads 70th. He’s 80 this year. Still not finished it.

Also taking photos of Cat1 (RIP).

I suppose that makes the point. Starting cross stitch or booking train tickets aren't the kind of thing that would preclude you murdering a stranger in the Alps (or, if you can prove that you were booking train tickets in the UK, it might not have been in the Alps but it could have been in England).

Drinking cocktails on a Cuban beach seems like a decent alibi.

Except for that murder in Havana.

Slowly realising that my marriage was dead in the water and wondering which one of us had the guts to call it a day first. We went our own ways in June and were divorced the following year.

Fast forward ten years and I'm living 230 miles away, completely different career, happier than I've ever been and am getting married in April.

And I was nowhere near the Alps.

Probably just looking forward to another year grinding away at the corporate mill.

Unbeknown to me, Mrs Aga was busy baking our recently conceived son.

Kango-ing plaster off a wall.

I was on three months gardening leave from Nespresso and had just had an ankle operation to fix a ruptured ligament. Was sitting at home feeling sorry for myself (but manly enough to do my own subcutaneous injections in my belly fat).

Arse. That was 2013. I was probably just working at Nespresso.

It was a Friday. I was on an interview panel and there was some aggro about a video for an advertising campaign.

Diary says: ‘Got the bus home, getting in about 7pm and just wanted to shut the door on the world.’

Oh dear! Well out of that situation.

cozzer - 13 Jan 2022 14:23:30 (#14 of 70)

just wanted to shut the door on the world.

... but instead I had to go to the Alps and shoot some unsuspecting motorist.

TheSwearingBear - 13 Jan 2022 14:30:03 (#15 of 70)

I was in New York making a doco, and bloody freezing.

Lawlsie - 13 Jan 2022 15:21:46 (#16 of 70)

I do remember. And even if I didn't I keep a diary.

However I am not saying

Stealing diamonds from a Las Vegas bank vault?

My diary tells me that I was with my mother in Kent in the morning and then with friends in Hampshire in the evening. We went out for what I remember was a good dinner at a restaurant in Winchester, even if one of the most memorable things was that I banged my head on the door frame going in. I'm shorter than average, but so was the medieval doorway.

Lawlsie - 13 Jan 2022 15:29:02 (#18 of 70)

What did you eat?

LomaxFairchild - 13 Jan 2022 15:31:04 (#19 of 70)

Looking at my emails I was developing a portal to enable landlords to manage their lettings. Exciting times.

Dubris - 13 Jan 2022 15:31:53 (#20 of 70)

I bothered to write in my diary that my main course was pheasant with chestnuts. Irritatingly I didn't mention the other courses. My memory outside the diary is of good company, a comfortable room and good food.
