The politics of progress and regression.

Half the world to starve while the other half diets.

We squander precious, non-renewable resources on manufacturing gizmos of no real use for value.

We allow gross inequality of the wealth that everyone creates, while so many struggle to pay their bills others flaunt the wealth that they get often for doing little of real value.

We are a species that expends astronomical amounts on killing machines while people die of ills that would have been cured decades ago had the investment been made available.

What are the polices we must pursue to create a civilised world.

Half the world to starve while the other half diets.

And yet everywhere there seems to be non-thinness.

More funding for the arts.

Guess who is the politician who advocated for it?

Jeremy Corbyn: ‘The Government Could Easily Afford to Expand Arts Funding’ https://tribunemag.co.uk/2020/10/jeremy-corbyn-the-government-could-easily-afford-to-expand-arts-funding

Jeremy Corbyn pledges a “cultural renaissance” https://labour.org.uk/press/jeremy-corbyn-pledges-a-cultural-renaissance-with-new-charter-for-the-arts-alongside-emeli-sande-mark-rylance-and-lily-allen/

Ah well, you had your chance.

How will the west blowing more funding on luxuries help feed the half of the world that's starving? (According to the op half the world is starving).

Is the OP Bono?

u2scram - whatever happened to him?

Oh it's an ancient thread. I thought it was too naive for the cynical modern JTT

This seems apt. Not because they are Nobel winners, but because they talk sense

More than 50 Nobel laureates have signed an open letter calling for all countries to cut their military spending by 2% a year for the next five years, and put half the saved money in a UN fund to combat pandemics, the climate crisis, and extreme poverty.

China's exempt ofc. China's exempt from all international responsibility.

Turtle - 14 Dec 2021 14:45:30 (#13 of 16)

Try leading by example. Maybe China will surprise you.

AdonisBlue - 14 Dec 2021 14:57:42 (#14 of 16)

Or we could actually try making China live up to its international responsibility rather than giving it the free pass it gets because everyone's terrified of its economic clout. Sanctions, stop buying Chinese stuff etc.

Isn't the US defence budget bigger than the rest of the world put together?

upgoer5goldrings - 14 Dec 2021 15:49:29 (#16 of 16)

They need a huge army though, otherwise King George will come over and force them all to become communists, or something.
