NASA vows to put lady astronauts on the moon by 2024

As part of a programme called Artemis, Nasa will send a lady astronaut to the MOON in the first landing with humans since 1972. NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine told CNN that the first lady astronaut to walk on the Moon in 2024 would be someone "who has been proven, somebody who has flown, somebody who has been on the International Space Station already and somebody who is good with an iron".

Let's hope they don't have to reverse park the lander. Eh lads? Eh? Eh lads?

(Disappears under a hail of bricks, bombs, knives, cudgels, rotten eggs etc. etc.)

Agaliarept - 05 Oct 2020 15:22:53 (#2 of 29)

The header says lady astronauts but the link says it's one lady astronaut.

What gives? Why the discrepancy? Just how many women are NASA planning on sending up?

What are they hiding? Is this some sort of left wing plot to transport all the women to the moon and leave us men behind to rot on earth under a mountain of unwashed socks, takeaway boxes and awkward bumsex??

thePiMan - 05 Oct 2020 15:24:14 (#3 of 29)

There can only be one because of all the bags she'll need obviously

lammaMia - 05 Oct 2020 15:24:23 (#4 of 29)

2: TMI.

Agaliarept - 05 Oct 2020 15:28:08 (#5 of 29)

Don't act like that isn't where it would all end up if men were left aone for long enough.

I'm thinking around 10 days.

TheExcession - 05 Oct 2020 15:32:13 (#6 of 29)

The world would be like one giant stag do filled with 'bants'. So a bit like the Middle ages, then, but much more tedious.

No, the link says it's one woman astronaut. Ladies is people wot takes tea at the Ritz, not adventures in space.

TheVoiceOfReason - 05 Oct 2020 15:40:40 (#8 of 29)

I hope the uniform for the lady astronauts will be pink with flowers on it.

Antimatter - 05 Oct 2020 15:43:59 (#9 of 29)

And cost 3 times as much.

FleurDuMal - 05 Oct 2020 15:45:18 (#10 of 29)

Not funny, guys ...

tasselhoff - 05 Oct 2020 15:52:25 (#11 of 29)

And no pockets

TheExcession - 05 Oct 2020 15:55:18 (#12 of 29)

Seriously though: the space geek in me is absolutely giddy about the thought of more moon landings (and then possibly Mars) and it looks like there's a set of proper long term goals this time rather than 'stick a flag on it'.

Dubris - 05 Oct 2020 16:01:17 (#13 of 29)

The BBC's website had an article last week about NASA testing improved space toilets that were less hit and miss for women to use. What sort of toilets will they need on the moon, where there's some gravity but not so much as here?

Agaliarept - 05 Oct 2020 16:04:10 (#14 of 29)

What sort of toilets will they need on the moon

One with a picture of a female stick figure on the door.

Dur.

frantastic - 05 Oct 2020 16:07:12 (#15 of 29)

Shouldn't it be 'Astranaut'?

TheExcession - 05 Oct 2020 16:07:40 (#16 of 29)

One where you can strap yourself in to avoid flying off into space after a night on the Arcturian Megavindaloo would be useful.

thePiMan - 05 Oct 2020 16:09:11 (#17 of 29)

What sort of toilets will they need on the moon

An Apolloo obviously

AdonisBlue - 05 Oct 2020 16:21:54 (#18 of 29)

It seems very unlikely we will develop a full manned moon program in four years. Especially as the world (hopefully) is recovering from the economic destruction of Covid.

I don't know why NASA releases this pie in the sky BS. When it doesn't happen they just lose more credibility and it feeds the conspiracy nuts.

NASA seems to have never really recovered from the Shuttle and, like so much of the west, has been taken over by bullshitters.

moto748 - 05 Oct 2020 16:24:26 (#19 of 29)

A man and a woman to send to the moon? I can think of two likely candidates...

thePiMan - 05 Oct 2020 16:36:02 (#20 of 29)

Because Trump tells them if they're not gong to the moon he isn't giving them any money. It really is that simple. Just like Trump.
