Picking a theme kind of simplifies the selection process

Ewbles - 15 Mar 2018 18:00:33 (#4 of 307)

Are we using the substitutions or not? I’ve got a team picked for MSR, but a lot of them will struggle in the April and Ardennes races, so I’ll have to tweak it if we’re just doing one team across 11 races.

TRaney - 15 Mar 2018 18:22:36 (#5 of 307)

I was relying on moving a couple out after MSR. But hadn't looked much beyond that.

nac1001 - 15 Mar 2018 18:30:23 (#6 of 307)

I initially liked the idea of no subs but some of us could have very light teams later in the series. I'll probably want to bulk buy Belgians in a week or two.

Ewbles - 15 Mar 2018 19:40:54 (#7 of 307)

That’s my thinking as well. I can’t stand games that expect you to make substitutions during a stage race, but it’s equally daft trying to build one team for all the classics. I’ve got guys who should be in contention over the Poggio who won’t even turn up for Flanders or Flèche.

Ewbles - 16 Mar 2018 13:13:15 (#8 of 307)

My MSR team:

Sagan

Benoit

Kwiatkowski

Kittel

Vuillermoz

Gougeard

De Gendt

Valgren

Markov

Doll

Kung

Teunissen

To be honest, Benoot will probably be a fixture until the Ardennes start, and Sagan and Vuillermoz might be in the team throughout, barring injury.

MontyPeculiar - 16 Mar 2018 21:14:32 (#9 of 307)

Yay nice one TRaney.

Apologies to this lot for ruining their chances over the next few weeks:

GVA

Kwiatkowski

Alaphilippe

Trentin

Ewan

Langeveld

Mezgec

Fraile

Woods

Doull

Sagan (no, his brother)

Anacona

claudiasevera - 17 Mar 2018 09:06:47 (#10 of 307)

Hmm. I don't think I've ever successfully picked the winner of a classic so these are (mostly) stabs in the dark:

Peter Sagan

Michal Kwiatkowski

Matej Mohoric

Lilian Calmejane

Zdenek Stybar

Maxim Belkov

Bram Tankink

Nikias Arndt

Koen De Kort

Cyril Gautier

Alessandro De Marchi

Julian Alaphilippe

LomaxFairchild - 17 Mar 2018 11:01:39 (#11 of 307)

I used my trusty method of scrolling through the list, trying to remember names from last year's commentary.

Kwiatkowski

Vanmarcke

Oss

Kelderman

Bakelants

Plaza

Navarro

Moreno

Modolo

Stannard

Viviani

De Gendt

nac1001 - 17 Mar 2018 21:38:09 (#12 of 307)

I have now dumped most of my Italians and brought in a few riders from the low countries.

I hadn't looked closely at the rules but you do seem to get good points just for being in the predictably doomed breakaway. My random cheap Israeli cyclist Sagiv (4 credits) happened to be in the break and got 60 points, as many as the 11th place rider at the finish.

TRaney - 17 Mar 2018 21:48:29 (#13 of 307)

I thought you were only allowed 2 subs per race?

nac1001 - 17 Mar 2018 22:06:58 (#14 of 307)

24 in total but I don't think there's a limit for a race.

TRaney - 17 Mar 2018 22:16:37 (#15 of 307)

Ah. Bugger.

LomaxFairchild - 17 Mar 2018 23:01:18 (#16 of 307)

Well I'm extremely dim - I've only just realised that the #MSR referred to the riders actually riding the race, so consequently I only had about 5 riders competing. What an idiot.

nac1001 - 17 Mar 2018 23:53:33 (#17 of 307)

This is the start list for E3 Harelbeke on Friday:

https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/e3-harelbeke/2018/startlist

MontyPeculiar - 18 Mar 2018 07:34:46 (#18 of 307)

My team list for E3 still shows #MSR. Do you reckon it will show #E3 at some point, or do we have to check every rider?

Ewbles - 18 Mar 2018 08:07:45 (#19 of 307)

I think he updates as the teams announce their squads, but with MSR some of them still hadn’t announced by Friday morning, so I ended up picking blind. To be honest, with 24 subs for 11 races with different terrain, I always assumed the team would be incomplete a lot of the time.

Ewbles - 18 Mar 2018 08:36:30 (#20 of 307)

Just tweaked mine ready for the cobbles. Is anyone else being removed from the league when they make changes?
