Men's team gym on now, England leading.

Yersinia - 05 Apr 2018 10:00:05 (#2 of 208)

Quite strange with the GB nations split into multiple teams.

It's good in a way, as there are enough good gymnasts to make up those teams. They will all be fighting for inclusion in the GB team for future events.

Watched a bit of the 11 year old Welsh table tennis player.

SheikYerbouti - 05 Apr 2018 10:03:06 (#4 of 208)

I wonder if the general lack of interest in this event points to it being quietly shitcanned within the next couple of rotations?

Yersinia - 05 Apr 2018 10:09:26 (#5 of 208)

I thought the Glasgow Games were very successful?

The timing of events on the other side of the world is always tricky.

SheikYerbouti - 05 Apr 2018 10:14:15 (#6 of 208)

Depends on your criteria for success. Ticket sales were pretty good, but the global media largely ignored it.

Yersinia - 05 Apr 2018 10:45:26 (#7 of 208)

Exciting race in the women's 400m individual medley, England's Aimee Wilmott just edged out Scotland's Hannah Miley.

Yersinia - 05 Apr 2018 10:50:12 (#8 of 208)

Gold for England, Silver for Canada, Bronze for Scotland in men's team gym.

LordofMisrule - 05 Apr 2018 16:03:48 (#9 of 208)

#4 Are you talking about the Commonwealth Games as a whole, or ping pong in the particular, Sheik?

Hello all, nice thread.

My sister lives on one of the tiny islands competing and had no idea it was happening. I guess now they have hundreds of American tv channels, its not a priority

Yersinia - 05 Apr 2018 19:39:41 (#11 of 208)

TBH, I knew there would be CG this year, because it is stuck in my mind that it cuts the Olympic cycle in half, but I only realised very recently that it was so imminent.

Does your sister's island have medal hopes? That usually increases publicity.

foxybrown - 05 Apr 2018 20:06:46 (#12 of 208)

One possible in women's high jump

Yersinia - 06 Apr 2018 10:53:35 (#13 of 208)

England v Australia in the women's team gym now. We are missing some of our top women.

This is the fourth and last session, and it's seeded, with top nations going last.

Going into this session, Canada leads, with Wales second, Scotland third.

Yersinia - 06 Apr 2018 10:57:46 (#14 of 208)

Some costly errors on the beam for the Ozzies.

Yersinia - 06 Apr 2018 11:39:10 (#15 of 208)

Canada hold on for gold, England get silver, not bad, in the absence of their star gymnasts. Australia third, Wales fourth.

TommyDGNR8 - 06 Apr 2018 17:10:53 (#16 of 208)

The guy presenting Auntie's swimming coverage is a dead ringer for IDS.

Yersinia - 07 Apr 2018 02:51:56 (#17 of 208)

Gold and silver for Nile Wilson and James Hall for England in the individual all-around gym. Cute Cypriot takes bronze, edging out Scotland's Frank Baines.

MontyPeculiar - 07 Apr 2018 09:25:20 (#18 of 208)

Oh dear. Nick Matthew, squash gold medal winner in 2010 and 2014 and top seed here, has just lost in the QF to Malaysian 12th seed Adnan. Mind you, he is an old man of 37.

Yersinia - 07 Apr 2018 10:54:58 (#19 of 208)

Expected win for Peaty in the 100m breaststroke, but a very close race, with team-mate Wilby grabbing second ahead of Saffer, Van Der Burgh. No record.

MontyPeculiar - 07 Apr 2018 11:02:21 (#20 of 208)

Aaaagh. Ali Waters had two match points but lost to Nicol David.
