The Massive Ponce's Putney to Mortlake Boaty Thing

Oxford & Cambridge are in the Final again. They will take forever to start & there's no overtaking.

Should it be called a race?

Will anyone sink?

Which bits of riverside scenery are the best?

Oxford & Cambridge are in the Final again.

It gets funnier every year.

solomongursky - 07 Apr 2019 13:47:24 (#2 of 28)

I put a fiver each way on Cambridge.

JohnIlly - 07 Apr 2019 13:49:24 (#3 of 28)

Will any policeman lose his helmet this evening?

solomongursky - 07 Apr 2019 14:03:49 (#4 of 28)

On BBC they got two so-called athletes to row ONE SIXTH of the course on a rowing machine. Both of them died. Toughest event in the world, every year they have to put a few down.

No wind.

So less chance of excitement from sinking.

Which bits of riverside scenery are the best?

Harrods Depository.

Trenton Oldfield was 7 years ago, blimey.

Ginmonkey - 07 Apr 2019 14:32:11 (#8 of 28)

He's probably still a massive bellend.

darkhorse - 07 Apr 2019 14:54:15 (#9 of 28)

Trenton? Trenton! TRENTON!!!

Moschops - 07 Apr 2019 15:11:41 (#10 of 28)

They should switch it around a bit. Send the posh boat nobs over the Aintree fences, and get 16 horses (and 2 ponies natch) to sit in the boats

solomongursky - 07 Apr 2019 15:13:22 (#11 of 28)

Cos horses can only row if they're sitting down.

Tenesmus - 07 Apr 2019 15:16:08 (#12 of 28)

Really? I can have a row sitting, standing, lying, any position really.

nemo75 - 07 Apr 2019 15:21:09 (#13 of 28)

And morbs can have one in a phone box.

dreams99 - 07 Apr 2019 15:25:32 (#14 of 28)

My partner knew Trenton Oldfield pretty well.

Cambridge are going to win this.

Moschops - 07 Apr 2019 15:27:04 (#15 of 28)

Massive pro Oxford bias in the commentary

FleurDuMal - 07 Apr 2019 15:27:43 (#16 of 28)

Son #2 lives very close to that. He is currently oop north and last year was too hungover to watch it.

I don’t think it interests him much.

dreams99 - 07 Apr 2019 15:29:39 (#17 of 28)

James Cracknell adds a boat race win to his many achievements. Is ht the oldest winner?

dreams99 - 07 Apr 2019 15:30:20 (#18 of 28)

Yes, he is, oldest rower in the race in fact.

SinnerBoy - 07 Apr 2019 15:39:31 (#19 of 28)

I think that they could make it more interesting by having rams on the boats and making them try to sink one another. They could also get smug points, if one side could discover the secret of Greek Fire and catapult the other lot and end their race in a conflagration.

nemo75 - 07 Apr 2019 15:40:59 (#20 of 28)

Do you have to be a current student?
