Loving the thread name. Then again, I am still a little drunk.

Tripos - 13 Jul 2013 08:13:33 (#2 of 476)

SonOfaCyniK, did you get my email?

StillCiars - 13 Jul 2013 10:45:18 (#3 of 476)

Splendid to see you all last night - apologies for turning up so late.

Lankybloke - 13 Jul 2013 14:34:16 (#4 of 476)

No probs Clars, just nice to see you!

I must confess I now regret not choosing a pub by the Irwell, but I bet any and all of those were rammed.

But, yep, a fun time, and nice to drag along that bloke Paul from Flythenest.

SonOfaCyniK - 13 Jul 2013 19:03:04 (#5 of 476)

It may well have been buried under automatic guff from LinkedIn, Tripos, will have a gander for it later!

Took me another hour to get home last night after Ciars and I left the BP at 1am. Taxis were awful; I sort of forgot it was a Friday night and I was in the town centre.

I liked Paul - although he seemed very nervous sometimes! How well do you know him out of interest, Lankybloke?

StillCiars - 13 Jul 2013 19:04:57 (#6 of 476)

Oh, crap, SOCK, had we thought it was going to be that long you could have come to mine and called a taxi from there.

SonOfaCyniK - 13 Jul 2013 19:14:59 (#7 of 476)

I considered it once or twice, Ciars, but knew that the second I walked off would be the second it arrived. Decided to stay near the lights and the crowds and the landmarks, and the taxi rocked up eventually, having been sent to the Quays and back because the person taking my call was apparently a bit of an idiot.

Besides, I won't see Manchester in nice weather very much this year, so it was nice to soak up a bit of the atmosphere.

Pinkgum - 13 Jul 2013 19:42:14 (#8 of 476)

It was very nice to see you all sorry I couldn't stay a little longer(especially to catch up with you ciars) although there is no way I would of lasted to 1am.

nice to soak up a bit of the atmosphere.

Yes sock, I love hot nights in the city.

Tripos - 13 Jul 2013 22:04:21 (#9 of 476)

The last time I was in Manchester "brass monkeys" doesn't even begin to describe how cold it was.

"I liked Paul - although he seemed very nervous sometimes! How well do you know him out of interest, Lankybloke?"

Hi Sock, well wouldn't you be a bit nervous in a room of t'interweb mongs who you've never met before?

As for Paul - he's a mod/admin for FTN, and after I'd posted about parliamentary selections on FTN he asked me about particular points in a mail to me and we started corresponding. I suggested a beer and the rest is very recent history.

I'm not sure it's nervousness - more just the way he carries himself.

SonOfaCyniK - 15 Jul 2013 12:14:41 (#11 of 476)

I have been - that's why I was thinking it! Fair play to all - he was a nice chap.

Lankybloke - 15 Jul 2013 18:41:26 (#12 of 476)

Yeah, he was/is.

Still, a fun night out - I notice that some dirty stop outs were still in the pub at 1am. Disgraceful. I had to get up and do nothing by 7.45am, so am disgusted.

Lankybloke - 16 Jul 2013 21:57:35 (#13 of 476)

BTW, Sock, it was very nice to meet you, and I was pleased that you'd been at Salford - a much underrated university with some extremely interesting courses.

I had a mate in the 80s who did electroacoustics there, and once qualified he never looked back.

SonOfaCyniK - 18 Jul 2013 01:42:21 (#14 of 476)

Thanks Lankybloke, definitely likewise. It's axing some of those interesting courses now, naturally. Happily not broadcasting like I studied, but lots of humanities are going, making our Chancellor much less popular. It'll be interesting to see how many non-media alumni share your opinion by this time next year!

StillCiars - 13 Aug 2013 13:56:43 (#15 of 476)

Anyone around over the bank holiday weekend? There are a number of WDYDLN wrongmos threatening to descend on Manchester on Sunday (and, god help him, one of them is staying with me from Saturday to Monday), so if anyone's around, shout.

SonOfaCyniK - 13 Aug 2013 13:57:00 (#16 of 476)

When's the bank holiday?

StillCiars - 13 Aug 2013 14:00:42 (#17 of 476)

Mon 26th's the bank holiday. It's also Pride weekend.

crabbyoldbat - 13 Aug 2013 14:43:32 (#18 of 476)

Oh dear god, is it? The place'll be heaving.

StillCiars - 13 Aug 2013 14:46:22 (#19 of 476)

Yeah, parade's on the Saturday.

crabbyoldbat - 13 Aug 2013 14:48:24 (#20 of 476)

Well, I think that's me for the Sunday Lunch visit, then. Are you going to book somewhere (you know the place better than some of us), or are we taking pot luck? I realise I'm now assuming you're being MsOrganiser and all that, sorry.
