Spitfires over the Finishing Line - The Running Thread, Again

Running, fitness and not quite so much filth as there used to be.

Tone lowered occasionally.

I've never started a thread before.

This is quite scary.

And empty.

It echoes.

Cordelia - 25 Jan 2015 13:35:01 (#2 of 7604)

New thread! Just needs some Lycra and some Deep Heat and it'll be just like the old one.

HenryM - 25 Jan 2015 13:35:53 (#3 of 7604)

I went out for a LSR today, and the ache in my legs tells me that yesterday was indeed a workout. So I logged them both.

marble - 25 Jan 2015 13:43:02 (#4 of 7604)

I did my LSR today - and had one of those great runs that makes you feel that it's all worth it and everything is good with the world. 11.5 km done in total. The occasional short walking break, but not too many. One part of the route was incredibly slippy and slidey with mud, so that slowed me down a lot around the 8k mark. Passed a heron and some robins, and the usual ducks and geese and swans. And home to log the last of this week's fantastic workouts, and set some targets for Feb. I'm away the last two weekends, so really clueless as to what is achievable. Have gone for a basic 5 miles for each of them on the basis that if I really have to, I can manage that in an evening run.

HenryM - 25 Jan 2015 13:45:05 (#5 of 7604)

Oh and hello new thread

SlasherBindman - 25 Jan 2015 13:51:18 (#6 of 7604)

A sluggish 53 minute run (late night, several drinks, first run since 3 January won't have helped).

McLuce - 25 Jan 2015 13:54:05 (#7 of 7604)

Hello new thread

I'm very glad I wasn't planning to run today as I'm a bit sore after yesterday's hockey. Stopping a puck with my foot didn't help

Yersinia - 25 Jan 2015 14:00:40 (#8 of 7604)

Hello thread. Good running, Marble, Henry and Slasher.

I'm leaving February goal-setting till the last moment.

Cordelia - 25 Jan 2015 14:02:57 (#9 of 7604)

Oh God. I'd forgotten about being away the last weekend of Feb.

<rushes off to adjust distance>

Hibiscus - 25 Jan 2015 14:05:13 (#10 of 7604)

Hello shiny new thread.

I ran yesterday and got my 2nd of the week logged. Have not gone to squash today though as I have a slightly twingy hamstring and thought cation would be best if I want to run next Sunday's 10k.

I too was disappointed that the winter run will not count in my February target, nevermind. Target set for Feb now, keeping it realistic is my mantra, so still sticking with 2 runs a week and targets of 4,5,6,6 miles.

Cordelia - 25 Jan 2015 14:06:44 (#11 of 7604)

I've downgraded to 2 runs a week as I'm struggling to fit three in with study and work and Speedflex. Keeping a cycle in though as that's getting me back on the bike a bit more than I have been recently.

Spitfire 10K! http://www.nice-work.org.uk/events.php?id=198

Cordelia - 25 Jan 2015 15:44:02 (#13 of 7604)

Oh we really ought to get together a team for that one!

Charisse - 25 Jan 2015 17:02:05 (#14 of 7604)

I am very tempted to sign up if anyone else fancies it.

hellybelly - 25 Jan 2015 17:17:36 (#15 of 7604)

I think the Spitfire 10k won't be great timing for me, in terms of exams, otherwise I'd be seriously thinking about heading down for it.

I had a great long run with MrHB today: 6 miles at 9:25. Jantastic is paying off for me already, I think, as is the good running I put in towards the end of last year. Comparing this year's distances and pace with this time last year, I'm in a much better place already. Just got to keep up the momentum until the summer.

Cordelia - 25 Jan 2015 17:27:37 (#16 of 7604)

I'll sign up for it.

marble - 25 Jan 2015 18:50:36 (#17 of 7604)

I may dither a bit on the Spitfires 10k. Very tempted, but not all sure about the RAF / military bit. Yes, I am an unreconstructed pinko leftie commie pacifist. Most of the time. Except when I'm driving.

I have signed up for the York 10k though.

And I need to actually read my Winter 10k details. It's next Sunday, isn't it? I've got my number, but no idea when I'm supposed to start. And I assume we'll be doing PIE afterwards?

Cordelia - 25 Jan 2015 18:54:30 (#18 of 7604)

Start times get sent out on Tuesday apparently and will be between 9.30 and 10.30. Are you planning to come in on that morning Marble? It did occur to me that you'd be welcome to stay over on the Saturday evening with me, if you didn't mind coping with my falling-to-pieces bathroom and loo!

I must get the bathroom and loo replaced at some point this year.

And yes, PIE.

marble - 25 Jan 2015 19:55:46 (#19 of 7604)

I may take you up on that... depends on actual start time and state of the Met Line. Will carry on dithering for a bit first though.

I'm dead good at dithering.

Hibiscus - 25 Jan 2015 20:09:22 (#20 of 7604)

PIE thirded here too. Least one of us has read the race pack, I've glanced at it but took no notice of any useful info.
