Slightly odd men who seem to have a problem with female presenters/broadcasters

There seems to be a lot of them online - the kind who respond to any mention of a female DJ or presenter being given a plaudit with "never heard of her", and then bang on about how some Partridge-esque bloke who does drivetime on BBC Radio Borsetshire has given 20 years of loyal service and never gets any recognition because broadcasters are all under the cosh of "the PC brigade" and "the diversity agenda".

I turned on the tv and half-listened

to the inane chatter of the local news,

hats were now in fashion shaped like screws.

Unread books fit tightly together on shelf.

knocking ashes from my pipe, I felt lightened,

laid down behind couch and pretended to rest myself.

Vaguely I understood a woman say to Rolf,

"the weather iz perfect for golf".

Whee! A micropoint.

Oestrogen has been detected in the Broadcasting Area.

Puce Alert.

But the old presenters should carry on for ever and ever, unchanged. How dare there be new presenters who don't all look or sound like me? How can I trust them? And how dare other people make the point that the old presenters don't all look or sound like them? - their opinion counts as nothing against mine.

In a nutshell, framed in the blandest tone possible.

I'm glad they stopped putting Jimmy saville on top of the pops.

But she looks fabulous in a uniform.

You just know she has tattoos in interesting places.

Ten points.

Philip Larkin there. Almost got by me, but not quite.

There's usually some sneery reference to "screechy" female voices as well.

JerkinMcGherkin - 07 Apr 2019 19:06:34 (#11 of 51)

And "gravitas". Women don't have that, apparently. This includes the current Dr Who, of whom it has also been said she lacks gravitas.

thisonehasalittlehat - 07 Apr 2019 19:07:30 (#12 of 51)

There are some posters who always call women posters shrill.

mememe - 07 Apr 2019 19:12:12 (#13 of 51)

Which in a purely text-based medium is a bit silly. Though I wonder who these 'posters' are.

thisonehasalittlehat - 07 Apr 2019 19:20:30 (#14 of 51)

Mostly left. Praggers. Bart's. Pleasant posters.

mememe - 07 Apr 2019 20:21:47 (#15 of 51)

Oh, ok. Well Bart wasn’t well, to be fair to him.

Liam Dutton has a huge chin. Even bigger than Jimmy Hill.

coshipi - 09 Apr 2019 06:43:10 (#17 of 51)

Than Jimmy Hill's chin, shirley?

I am definitely a man; I suppose I cannot deny that I am at the least slightly odd; I definitely have a problem with Laura Kuenssberg.

But I don't have any more of a problem with female presenters/broadcasters in general than I do with male ones in general. For one who currently springs to mind, Katya Adler is among the best.

CarlosFandango - 09 Apr 2019 10:11:00 (#18 of 51)

Ellipsis Cosh, but yes, you are of course right.

I too have a problem with LK. She has on occasion deliberately misled her viewers.

Agaliarept - 09 Apr 2019 10:28:29 (#19 of 51)

I definitely have a problem with Laura Kuenssberg.

I have a bit of an issue with what I've seen of Cathy Newman but I don't think it's anything to do with her gender. She seems very pleased with herself all the time.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy does the exact same thing. They seem to be part of the same branch of sleb journalists who think they are more important than who they are interviewing.

Really? I'd never have guessed! :-)
