"You won't pass a credit check without a job. Find a job first."

According to Nemo. This doesn't sound right to me.

It wasn't advice for me but surely it isn't the case?

You won’t pass a credit check without an obvious source of income. Or, if you do, the repayment rates will be extortionate to reflect the perceived risk. Universal Credit is not “an obvious source of income”.

Thanks for the name check. Well done for not addressing it in the actual thread. Fuck sake.

Heckler - 17 Apr 2019 14:41:43 (#3 of 55)

I got refused car insurance when I was unemployed a year or so ago....

nemo75 - 17 Apr 2019 14:42:25 (#4 of 55)

The point was, letting agencies will check you have a source of income. ‘Benefits’ won’t usually do.

Agaliarept - 17 Apr 2019 14:42:57 (#5 of 55)

You won’t pass a credit check without an obvious source of income.

That's probably the crux. You may not have to "have a job" but there should be a source of income.

This is The haven, ffs. Drink some wine and enjoy the cheese while they're moist. Civility and whimsy is optional only after you've had too many and still can't get off.

nemo75 - 17 Apr 2019 14:48:50 (#7 of 55)

What?

nemo75 - 17 Apr 2019 14:52:13 (#8 of 55)

Oh. Yes it was.

Ginmonkey - 17 Apr 2019 15:53:32 (#9 of 55)

#3 that is because if you pay insurance monthly it is technically credit and they have to credit check you. If you could pay the premium in one lump sum uou probably would have been accepted.

I remember a few years back some newspaper ran a credit score on the Duke of Edinburgh. Because he'd never had HP, a mortgage or a normal job, he came out as a poor risk.

nemo75 - 17 Apr 2019 16:35:26 (#11 of 55)

Cool story.

mememe - 17 Apr 2019 16:36:20 (#12 of 55)

He has had a normal job. He was in the Navy.

nemo75 - 17 Apr 2019 16:38:25 (#13 of 55)

This is about lefters though.

ThreeFlewOver - 17 Apr 2019 16:42:09 (#14 of 55)

His naval service is quite a read. Although, I hadn't realised (from wiki) that Elizabeth fell in love with Philip and they began to exchange letters when she was thirteen [he was 18 at the time].

mememe - 17 Apr 2019 16:55:48 (#15 of 55)

Different times.

He was a bona fide hero in the war.

ThreeFlewOver - 17 Apr 2019 16:57:05 (#16 of 55)

Different times.

You what now? I mean, there's no indication it went beyond correspondence. but still. Ew.

mememe - 17 Apr 2019 16:58:40 (#17 of 55)

I think 'different times' is generally used tongue in cheek to mean 'fuck me that's grim'.

mememe - 17 Apr 2019 17:00:08 (#18 of 55)

Anyway, it seemed to work. they've been quite a successfully married couple.

levelgaze - 17 Apr 2019 17:00:56 (#19 of 55)

Could all still go wrong...

Agaliarept - 17 Apr 2019 17:09:09 (#20 of 55)

Imagines....

Dearest Liz, today as I stood on the deck looking out over the gun battery, I suddenly felt a cold shiver with the realisation that there are many men who’s sole purpose is to make sure I never return home safe to you and your loving eyes. The idea filled me with dread and I can think of nothing else since. I long to return to London to continue our courtship. Forever yours, Phillipy-poos.

Dead Phillipy-poos. Today I did colouring in and didn’t go out the lines or anything. Mrs Sneddon down the road has a funny cat called Tim. I like cats. What is your favourite fruit? Can’t wait for school holibobs. Nanny says she’ll take me boating on the Thames. Hurray back, we can watch Pinky and Perky on Nana’s new fangled telly box. Yours Lizzles.
