Shit memes and trite phrases on Facebook (again!)

Share the buggers here.

I've seen a couple of crackers this week that fair made me want to bang my head against the nearest brick surface:

1) "Suicide kills more people than coronavirus, so how about stockpiling smiles and kindness instead of toilet rolls"

2) (below a picture of Greta Thurnberg) "Our generation will decide the future" (below a picture of (god knows why!) Telly Savalas in The Dirty Dozen) "Your generation doesn't know if it wants to be a boy or a girl"

The last few days have also supplied some ill-informed belters as well.

CarlosFandango - 18 Mar 2020 09:53:52 (#2 of 21)

I'm self-isolating from fb at the moment. This thread neatly encapsulates why.

DesEsseintes - 18 Mar 2020 09:56:19 (#3 of 21)

there's a fair bit of 2) on twitter

RosyLovelady - 23 Mar 2020 07:54:58 (#4 of 21)

I'm not on Facebook and I rely on others to keep me up to date with shitmemes and such. More of this sort of thing please.

Tinymcsmithy - 23 Mar 2020 08:07:44 (#5 of 21)

All sorts of woo self-diagnosis of Covid19 at the moment. I won’t repeat them, because I don’t want to encourage them.

Ginmonkey - 23 Mar 2020 08:30:28 (#6 of 21)

I'm not seeing any woo memes just more rushing to see who can be more outraged about people not social distancing.

One this morning - "I was in Tesco just getting a few bits and no one was wearing PPE. When are we going to take this seriously!!!" Well seeing as the NHS can't get all the PPE it needs and it is next to useless on untrained people not sure what difference it makes numbnuts.

SharkPatoo - 23 Mar 2020 08:34:51 (#7 of 21)

I do quite like the "The Government just want us to stay in so they can change the batteries in all the birds" one.

Agaliarept - 23 Mar 2020 09:41:20 (#8 of 21)

This was shared on the Covid Herd thread and is too difficult to explain but:

Twitter. Coronavirus. Chemtrails. 5G. Government control:

That person needs the large explaining mallet.

The guv jealous if u pull chix innit

LordofMisrule - 23 Mar 2020 12:12:08 (#11 of 21)

There are a lot fewer contrails overhead at the moment (round here at least). I was thinking only yesterday that the chemtrails weirdos might be happy with this outcome. Apparently not.

phantlers - 23 Mar 2020 14:04:22 (#12 of 21)

They will deduce that the chemtrails have done their job.

One today said, "Pubs closed, schools shut, no jobs,- it's as if Corbyn had won". I argued with the silly bastard.

Another one put a 10 minute YouTube with a title like Tommy Beats Coronavirus. It seemed to show Tommy sticking up for some old ladies, though I could only stand a few seconds of his face. I couldn't be arsed arguing with that one so deleted them. Unfriended them I mean.

That said there is much good stuff on there, like the Scooby Doo gang removing Johnson's mask to show who was really responsible for these Socialist policies - Corbyn. Also one of my old colleagues liked my posts arguing with the one above.

phantlers - 23 Mar 2020 14:23:06 (#14 of 21)

" it's as if Corbyn had won" in other words, all the bullshit they swallowed about him was actually true of his opponent.

If one deletes someone for their mendacity it's as well to block them as well, and to beware of mutual friends who may share your posts with them.

downbuzz - 23 Mar 2020 14:33:55 (#15 of 21)

I have stayed friends with the Corbyn hater who I used to work with. We have a ton of mutual friends and during the election he actually deleted one of his posts after the shit-storm of a reaction he got from me and a few others.

The Tommy Robinson fan is a female friend I went to college with about 30 years ago. Again I argued with her at election time, but she had harder edge than the person mentioned above. I had no idea she leaned that way. No need to block her. When someone is putting up long Tommy videos then they're probably too far gone to reason with.

"Place this rose on your page for everyone who doesn't have their mothers around this Mother's Day. RIP Mum."

downbuzz - 23 Mar 2020 15:11:22 (#17 of 21)

What do you place on your page if your mother is still around but won't be next Mother's Day because of Covid 19?

LordofMisrule - 23 Mar 2020 15:24:17 (#18 of 21)

Lilies

A Goop contributor’s social media posts are being removed after she claimed that coronavirus may not exist and that deaths from the virus are likely caused by fear.

According to Kelly Brogan, a “holistic psychiatrist,” according to her website, who has previously written blog posts and Q&A's for Goop and appeared as an expert on panels for Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand, she doesn’t think the virus is real because she doesn’t believe in “germ-based contagion”.
