Our toaster died a couple of days ago. The new one ordered by MadameB arrived this afternoon. It has a bagel button.
If space is infinite, and God is also infinite ...
... would you like some toast?
#8 Probably. The user manual has 16 pages. For a fucking toaster.
Don't fuck the toaster!
That's very inadvisable. And probably in the manual somewhere.
I've recently found myself eating quite a lot of toast. I think it is comforting in troubled times.
I thought this was going to be about U-Roy

I like toasted pittas; give it a quick wetting, place in toaster, switch on, when popped out, cut one side and stuff it with mozzarella, tomato a drip of olive oil an a pinch of salt; yum. Or is it too Continental?
No Tau, it's not too continental.
It's heaven.
And butteries
Oh yes! Pity nowhere in the south of Oxfordshire sells them. My sister, who lives not a million miles away in Surrey, used to make them when she worked in the Bridge of Don Tesco.
Alas, none of my attempts to make any using her recipe have ever come out even close to looking or tasting like the real thing.
A buttery, or rowie, is an Aberdeen delicacy.
Imagine a flat, heavy, greasy, salty bread roll.
It's much greasier than a bagel, more like flattened croissant.
AA, I can recommend those from the Bakehouse in Crathie if you are passing through.
yumyum, the bagel button is for toasting one side more than the other.
Proper bagels should only be toasted if they are not fresh. This is the law. Obviously the crap supermarket ones don’t count.
Link please to magic bagel one side more than the other toaster.
Toast, crumpets and on occasion, muffins. Not those American fairy cake abominations, muffin muffins.
#31: Not available. I think the current design is this:

Mine is red.
Does anyone else let toast go cold and just have it with butter? The butter has to be quite cool as well.
That's a biscuit or cracker.
Toast with anchovys mashed up and sliced up for dipping in boiled eggs are refered to as Marines.

I quite like crumpets like that - well toasted and then cooled. Not absolutely cold, but just warm enough to soften but not melt the butter.
Melba toast is good. Sadly no one sells thinly sliced bread any more.
Flashback -- I once worked in the stillroom of a big hotel and had to make mountains of melba toast. WAAAH!
refered to as Marines.
Sounds excellent.
Toasted cheese butty!!!
That's a classic 'toaster burn' if I ever came across one....

No, the toast should be spongy and chewy. And the butter as cold as it can be and still be spreadable.
Mothers used to pass cold buttered toast to us bairns through the high railings mounted on a wall round my primary school playground, every morning playtime.
I can't stand cold toast. Neither can my daughter. She enthuses about melted butter.
You could always combine the two, as Nigella demonstrates here:

'The Platonic Ideal Of Toast'
Melted unsalted butter, then cool solid unsalted butter, then salt poured over it? Nah, I don't think so.
Having said that, my mum was great at getting toast like that. I just accepted it, I never bothered to find out how she did it. My painful loss. However, I'm pretty sure it was salted butter.
Some love, and some hate, for cold buttered toast here -

I use Toasta bags for super quick emergency cheese grillys.

What sort of emergency requires a toasted cheese sandwich?
Usually too busy/bored/cold to cook a hot lunch, so a toasted cheese sandwich made in the toaster is quick, hot & tasty.
A cheese and ham toasty is the fifth emergency service
With or without tomatoes?

If it's thin sliced bread and you serve it in a toast rack, it's B&B toast. IKWYM and quite enjoy that myself.
Had a toastie with that honey seeded bloomer bread for lunch/brunch. Butter (Aldi West Country salted), red pepper houmous, red onion, slices of red pepper and grated carrot and Aldi lentil crisps on the side.
#55 sun dried tomatoes preferably.
Had a toastie of some sort for brekky, consisting in a small baguette, cut in half, and placed on top of the toast, as it wouldn't otherwise fit; does that count as a toastie? stuffed with fresh tom sliced thin, one scrambled egg with chopped mushrooms, a dash of mild chili sauce, lettuce, a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of salt, a fresh brew black coffee sweetened with honey.(*)
(*) not IN the toastie...
