Electric razor? Safety razor? Cutthroat razor? Soap and brush? Shaving foam or shaving oil?

Are any of you still using shaving foam a la your Dad or Grandad?

Ladies, what do you use to shave any bits that need shaving?

I use shaving oil. So easy, no mess and a silky smooth jawline.

Wahl hair clippers without an attachment. Permanent stubble. Good for the skin - not for your other half's skin though.

Wet and dry electric (mostly dry). Sometimes a go over with a 3-blade to get things back to square one.

Dumping cartridge razors & gel in favour of DE safety razor & shaving cream is one of my better decisions.

ReverendBlueJeans - 20 Aug 2021 16:41:20 (#4 of 151)

Gel 'n' Gillette 3-blade malarkey. Forget what it's called. Don't trust electrics - I don't want to puree my face.

Shave every day. I look like a disreputable child-killer with one day's growth, rather than someone Mediterranean and interesting.

I keep wondering about trying a safety razor for shaving around the beard.

And then it all sounds too difficult.

For my shiny head, I use a Remington Flex360 electric razor. But I really don't like electric razors on my face. For that I have a DE safety razor and shaving cream. And yes, dumping the mach3 and shaving gel for the old-fashioned method has been a revelation. Better shave and it costs buttons. Wasted so much money not understanding what a rip off all the fancy blades are.

LemonGrass - 20 Aug 2021 16:44:57 (#7 of 151)

Shaving cream and brush. Don’t like the texture of gel/foam.

Blades by mail order (Cornerstone).

Been getting targeted advertising from Henson and find myself considering double edged blades again.

rejonked - 20 Aug 2021 15:52:01 (#9 of 151)

ooh that looks nice. My razor is a really crappy thing I picked up at a local shop, but it does the job, paired with Astra blades (10p each). I might get something nicer now I've established it's the way to go.

Dementor - 20 Aug 2021 16:57:05 (#10 of 151)

Can anyone recommend a DE safety razor holder / handle brand?

fogsake - 20 Aug 2021 17:02:41 (#11 of 151)

That Henson is making me damp.

Macpaddy - 20 Aug 2021 17:09:50 (#12 of 151)

That looks like something worth considering.

Ebay is full of old Gillette Rockets and various other DE variants for next to nothing. Alternatively go even older school with an Ever Ready SE (my preference).

If buying new I'd got for a Merkur.

Appauling - 20 Aug 2021 17:16:14 (#14 of 151)

Buying a 2nd hand razor doesn't appeal much.

fogsake - 20 Aug 2021 17:25:54 (#15 of 151)

I do like a bit of functional elegance.

Ah, I like that. I presume you flip the blade over once the first side is dull.

OldLefty - 20 Aug 2021 17:31:05 (#17 of 151)

One advantage of mask wearing is that nobody can see if you haven't bothered shaving.

LemonGrass - 20 Aug 2021 17:32:15 (#18 of 151)

Or cut yourself shaving.

Sabacious - 20 Aug 2021 17:32:42 (#19 of 151)

Neems, no the blade just has a single edge.

Appauling - 20 Aug 2021 17:33:44 (#20 of 151)

Or muttering to yourself 'Typical, I spent half an hour shaving and for what?'
