I can't get past that first sentence: 'a sailor from Lichfield'. It's about as far inland as you can get in this country.

raymie - 31 Oct 2021 05:46:05 (#2 of 48)

It’s not where you’re from, but where you are that matters

HouseOfLametta - 31 Oct 2021 08:13:47 (#3 of 48)

And I'm in your head.

browserbutton - 31 Oct 2021 08:18:24 (#4 of 48)

Who said that?

wickeltisch - 31 Oct 2021 08:19:29 (#5 of 48)

And I'm on the sofa. And the voiceI hear is from the radio, not from inside my head.

Is the article worth reading? I did not click on the link.

HouseOfLametta - 31 Oct 2021 08:20:41 (#6 of 48)

I wouldn't be surprised if it was written by a computer.

#1 - Huddersfield still has a very active sea cadet unit despite being 50 miles from the coast and 300ft above sea level.

"... there's someone in my head but it's not me"

#1: I'm sure lots of people choose jobs that take then away from their original dull surroundings. There might even be investment bankers from Nuneaton.

You're going to lose your shit when you find out inland Royal Navy sites are called 'HMS.....'.

I have The Voice from Dune....

Get me some crisps!

Delighted_User - 31 Oct 2021 11:02:35 (#11 of 48)

I have the utmost sympathy for people from Nuneaton, but why would they choose investment banking as an escape from dullness?

barkis - 31 Oct 2021 11:16:06 (#12 of 48)

The captain of the Titanic was from Stoke-on-Trent. Asking for trouble?

pranzingfrogg - 31 Oct 2021 11:43:56 (#13 of 48)

It’s an excellent place to come from, is Stoke-on-Trent. To go to, not so much.

I once stayed up late, binge watching an Australian series. When I woke up the next day, my inner voice had a distinctly Australian accent. The sensation was so strong I was afraid to speak out loud for at least an hour, in case it came out Aussie. When I did finally speak however it was just the usual boring middle England sounds. I wasn't sure whether to be relieved or disappointed.

When I heard a voice recording of a poster on here I thought but that’s not how you sound! You sound like me! I realised I ‘hear’ all the posters on this board as having my voice but with different tones and emphases dependent on the post content. Eg an angry poster sounds like me being slightly angry.

But that’s a reading internal sound, Not an inner voice - heaven forbid I should have jtt inner voices.

tasselhoff - 31 Oct 2021 13:34:03 (#16 of 48)

Beaky1 - 31 Oct 2021 13:34:16 (#17 of 48)

No need for an internal voice if you talk to yourself, like me.

Tagyourit - 31 Oct 2021 13:38:38 (#18 of 48)

Nuneaton's not great but it's better than Bedworth (or "bedduth" as the local inbreds call it) at least.

breakfast - 31 Oct 2021 13:39:34 (#19 of 48)

I’ve never even heard of Bedworth. Til now.

browserbutton - 31 Oct 2021 13:40:34 (#20 of 48)

I was marooned in Tamworth once -- disappointed not to see orange pigs.
