Off to Cyprus (North of Paphos) in a fortnight. Weather looks a bit dodgy next week, but still warm. Never been, so looking forward to the clocks going back and getting away to the Med from the current gloom. Ordinarily I would do a couple of city breaks (Germany or maybe Spain) this time of year so it'll make a change.

Thinking about last-minute half term jaunt with the kids -- for some reason I have narrowed it down to Palermo or Bergen. Any thoughts on either of those?

barkis - 15 Oct 2018 21:18:27 (#3 of 1151)

Scarborough. I normally go over there for one of the cricket matches.

Sabacious - 15 Oct 2018 21:21:04 (#4 of 1151)

Bergen will be wet and gloomy, Palermo probably quite pleasant but cool in the evenings, also much cheaper!

Tomnoddy - 15 Oct 2018 21:21:59 (#5 of 1151)

Palermo is the correct choice.

Not been to either nrv0us. I'm guessing Bergen is eye-wateringly expensive though. Malta is as close as I've got to Sicily and is a cheap alternative.

We were pondering a half- term flit somewhere warm but have decided to just do stuff at home/ seaside and save a big trip for easter instead. It seems like a long way off.

Singapore. But I have been prevaricating over it for days because I have to psyche myself up for a such a long flight, then thinking if I'm going that far I ought to see Malaysia, then think how complex and expensive that makes it. Ugh.

Lisbon, either over Xmas or, more probably, just after New Year. Day trip to Sintra included.

A friend posted a social media selfie picture from Bergen a couple of years ago titled 'the £7 pint' or something similar. He's the sort of bloke who would have found somewhere cheap as well. I was buying pints at nearly £6 each in Reading, Berks on Saturday however. I'm sure this isn't your criteria anyway.

FleurDuMal - 15 Oct 2018 21:39:22 (#12 of 1151)

I’m going to Nice at half term.

Fuck knows if I can go anywhere at Easter next year.

Tomnoddy - 15 Oct 2018 21:40:51 (#13 of 1151)

New Zealand, with a stop-off in Sydney and Singapore. We've been organising it all summer, and are off in a couple of weeks. Back in time for Christmas!

Am I right in thinking that they're planning to demolish the Park Lane Building Fleur? Wikipdia seems unsure whether it's that or the College of Technology. I live near the "Park Lane Campus" and used to work there so I take an interest in these matters.

popstar7 - 15 Oct 2018 21:48:36 (#15 of 1151)

I might spend a few days in Dublin over Christmas. Sometime in Spring I'm going to spend a couple of weeks in Boston, Cape Cod and New York.

Istanbul, for the first time, next month. I don't think anyone here knows much about Turkey though.

Eligelis - 15 Oct 2018 21:52:23 (#17 of 1151)

Slovakia (Bratislava), Poland (Cracow), Slovenia (Ljublana) or one of the Baltic States. Not sure which yet.

widenation - 15 Oct 2018 21:58:39 (#18 of 1151)

Always fancied Bratislava but have heard it's pretty dull. Be interested to hear from anyone who has been. Cracow is great as is Lublin.

FleurDuMal - 15 Oct 2018 21:59:55 (#19 of 1151)

barkis, no, all the adult students are moving to Park Lane.

I don’t know what’s happening to the Tech Campus though.
