This is very strange and horrible, it's economic ethnic cleansing.

Pentecost - 13 Feb 2013 22:00:34 (#2 of 391)

Who's doing the ethnic cleansing?

solomongursky - 13 Feb 2013 22:01:39 (#3 of 391)

Economic ethnic cleansing, I said.

HerrWalrus - 13 Feb 2013 22:01:44 (#4 of 391)

Camden is full of kids anyway.

TimMalloy - 13 Feb 2013 22:04:23 (#5 of 391)

It's fucking disgusting.

barkis - 13 Feb 2013 22:05:41 (#6 of 391)

In a way it's fair enough. We in the north mostly ship our tory shits to the south.

Pentecost - 13 Feb 2013 22:10:55 (#7 of 391)

yes, solomon, don't be picky, who's doing it, is the question?

solomongursky - 13 Feb 2013 22:16:20 (#8 of 391)

Camden council.

bossab2 - 13 Feb 2013 22:18:35 (#9 of 391)

Is this in the business plan for HS2 ?

Pentecost - 13 Feb 2013 22:19:29 (#10 of 391)

Camden council said that it would shortly be contacting 761 households, comprising 2,816 adults and children, because the coalition's benefit cap – which limits total welfare payments to £500 a week for families – will mean that they will be unable to afford their current accommodation or any other home in the south-east.

This extract from the link seems to put the cause of this economic ethnic cleansing of the south east a bit further back than Camden Council.

It's a lovely, impractical dream. Get some mates together who can work anywhere. Buy a street and make an instant community...

TheVoiceOfReason - 14 Feb 2013 09:33:12 (#14 of 391)

If you're asking someone else to pay the bill, you don't have a right to demand to live in central London, where many of the people paying your bill can't afford to live themselves. No one is being made homeless.

These people have always lived in London. It's not their fault that London housing costs are out of control because of rent deregulation, lack of social housing and unaffordable home ownership. They didn't fuck the housing market.

No one is being made homeless.

Bullshit.

carterbrandon - 14 Feb 2013 09:39:05 (#16 of 391)

Well done us. We've managed to become more heartless than our 17th century forbears. They would whip the poor from tithing to tithing back to their original home. We whip them away from it.

Christ, what a nasty little viewpoint

Wombat - 14 Feb 2013 09:45:05 (#18 of 391)

Not being made homeless is true. However, removing them from their community, support network, family and friends to 'not be homeless' in Leicester/Bradford/etc is utterly vile.

samesamebutdifferent - 14 Feb 2013 09:46:56 (#19 of 391)

They'll be moved because they become homeless in Camden (and it won't just be Camden), where they live, since they won't be able to afford the rent once their benefits are cut.

I love self important thread headers like this. They really add something to this rather grim story.
