Couldn't he just go into politics instead?

Beefie - 23 Nov 2017 17:49:32 (#2 of 531)

I am not quite sure what purpose is served phoning up tragic 'Jamie' Bulger's mother to ask for comment.

BuddhaPest - 23 Nov 2017 17:53:19 (#3 of 531)

I am not quite sure what point is being made by putting Jamie Bulger's name in quotation marks. He was killed and it was a tragedy. I agree that constantly asking his mother for comments is doing nobody any favours.

GreenFuture - 23 Nov 2017 17:54:16 (#4 of 531)

It's not the most unreasonable thing of itself Beefie, it's the generalised sensationalism that is very disturbing.

He's on the list now with Huntley / Sutcliffe etc - tawdry coverage by elite billionaire owned fash-rags with a lurid fascination for murder, rape and anything disgusting. Because they are truly disgusting themselves.

It's not his name.

presumably that it's not his name, but an affectation created by the tabloid press

Tadagee - 23 Nov 2017 17:57:01 (#7 of 531)

It is a strange irony that those who kill as children are generally treated as more worthy of condemnation than adults.

Quite so.

His parents called him James and were upset by the tabloids calling him "Jamie," despite repeated requests not to do so.

Anyway, after two recalls on licence, for serious child pornography offences, perhaps it's time to keep him locked up for a serious stint. Thompson has apparently led a blameless life, since his release.

mememe - 23 Nov 2017 19:49:57 (#10 of 531)

Similarly Amanda Dowler was never called 'Millie' by her parents iirc.

Jacob_Richter - 23 Nov 2017 21:11:53 (#11 of 531)

Does any team replicate the Christmas Tree formation these days?

dottie30 - 23 Nov 2017 22:15:42 (#12 of 531)

This guy must be toe-curlingly dumb. Knowing his PC was going to be checked regularly. What a twat.

SunkenTreasures - 23 Nov 2017 22:17:15 (#13 of 531)

The fact that he's dumb really isn't the biggest problem here.

Bromio - 23 Nov 2017 22:20:08 (#14 of 531)

Not as far as I'm aware, Jacob, but Everton seem to be playing the Stuffed Turkey formation.

BrouTwo - 23 Nov 2017 22:20:54 (#15 of 531)

#12 or he prefers prison to the outside world.

Shadrack22 - 23 Nov 2017 22:23:26 (#16 of 531)

Regular meals, bantz with the lads and studying for Open University in your spare time.

solomongursky - 23 Nov 2017 22:24:18 (#17 of 531)

Maybe he's a horrible person. Maybe the way he was treated has made him worse than he ever was.

BrouTwo - 23 Nov 2017 22:27:07 (#18 of 531)

Maybe he's constantly terrified of being exposed and lynched. Safe to say he's probably profoundly psychologically fucked up, whether by his crime, something before it, or his notoriety and double life since.

dottie30 - 24 Nov 2017 06:22:33 (#19 of 531)

When he was recalled the first time, it did get me wondering if there had been any attempt while they were in custody as children to deal with their sexual development. The latter part of childhood and the whole of adolescence was spent inside which is very problematic. I believe he got fat from the lack of activity and this can lead to late puberty in boys (early in girls though).

In this, Thompson, being gay might have been the lucky one because there were real, live people (other boys) to focus attention on (even if there was no physical contact, at least there were physical people to fantasise about). With Venables, it was probably porn from the off.

Obviously this is all conjecture but I'm sure that a kid's sexual development wasn't the first thing on their mind when the authorities had the unfortunate task of formulating a plan on how to deal with them. It was unprecedented (the only other comparable case is Mary Bell and actually that's not that comparable - she was treated very differently) so I don't envy their task.

It's just I read the Omand report the first time he was recalled and it's clear that Venables couldn't form healthy relationships. This was partly because he was terrified of exposure and it was a condition of parole that he must reveal his real identity and past to anyone he formed a close relationship with.

He's not been charged with anything yet.

And if he's charged and convicted, he'll get a sentence similar to other sentences for similar offences. The difference is, as a recalled lifer, he won't get automatic release mid-way through and he has to go through the parole process again. I doubt he'll be in longer than 5 years.
