What is Sadiq Khan Achieving?

Maybe it's because I'm not a Londoner that I'm not following the detail.

I know he gets berated from the right basically because he's one of THEM, though they're NOT EVEN ALLOWED to say so because of PCGM (tm).

But is he actually getting anything of note done on issues like housing, crime and environment? Or does he spend more time preening his ego and chipping in on efforts to destabalise the leadership of his own party?

What do people think his chances are of getting a 2nd term?

Also, when did he stop beating his wife?

Eligelis - 10 Apr 2018 20:58:37 (#2 of 194)

Is there any point in putting anything here, GF? It's pretty obvious from the header that you've already made up your mind on the matter.

Evidence of achievement might well exist. Presenting them would be more convincing than the crafting of a straw person.

thisonehasalittlehat - 10 Apr 2018 21:02:33 (#4 of 194)

He stopped the shit bridge.

GreenFuture - 10 Apr 2018 21:02:45 (#5 of 194)

I dont think it's obvious what I think at all.

The title is neutral and my first sentence indicates I don't really know.

I can't stand the hate he gets from the right. I would rather a critique or defence that was based on substance.

thisonehasalittlehat - 10 Apr 2018 21:04:18 (#6 of 194)

He's annoyed trump.

pranzingfrogg - 10 Apr 2018 21:05:55 (#7 of 194)

He isn’t Boris Johnson. That’s a plus.

kvelertak - 10 Apr 2018 21:06:02 (#8 of 194)

This is a very leading question, Greeners -

Or does he spend more time preening his ego and chipping in on efforts to destabalise the leadership of his own party?

He's no dynamo, but no disgrace either.

GreenFuture - 10 Apr 2018 21:12:29 (#9 of 194)

One paragraph inviting positive comment and one inviting negative. It aint that bad kvelertak. Both following a dismissal of common r/w hate.

I'm more interested in what people think his achievements are, rather than what people think I think his achievements are, especially as I've already admitted my ignorance - the main reason for the thread aside from curiosity.

does he spend more time preening his ego and chipping in on efforts to destabalise the leadership of his own party?

I don't share your prejudice.

invicta - 10 Apr 2018 21:20:12 (#11 of 194)

Like the French Revolution, it's too early to tell.

GreenFuture - 10 Apr 2018 21:21:30 (#12 of 194)

It's not prejudice to suppose a politician might preen their ego. His anti Corbyn activities are public record.

11 posts in and no major achievements I've seen (ignored user aside) beyond that he's not Boris. I hope that's not a sign.

How about: Yes....he's done X, Y & Z. I'd be more open minded than some clearly think, although I've not been given anything to be open minded about.

Housing and crime are especially notable issues at the moment. There must be plenty more to say about the mayors actions on these than a bloke's alleged prejudice on a message board.

xDiggy - 10 Apr 2018 21:21:48 (#13 of 194)

There’s a limit to what he can do wrt issues like housing because of his limited budget and powers. What he had done is (a) be a grownup, (b) not piss taxpayers money away on absurd vanity projects, (c) told Karen Brady to get in the sea. 1000% better than his predecessor.

Pentecost - 10 Apr 2018 21:23:02 (#14 of 194)

What does anyone ever achieve in that position? Bendy busses and a watercannon?

Cordelia - 10 Apr 2018 21:23:58 (#15 of 194)

Cheaper bus fares.

thisonehasalittlehat - 10 Apr 2018 21:24:59 (#16 of 194)

Ooo am I ignored user! ?

Cordelia - 10 Apr 2018 21:25:43 (#17 of 194)

More affordable homes.

Pentecost - 10 Apr 2018 21:26:08 (#18 of 194)

Who achieved that?

champagnerocker - 10 Apr 2018 21:27:09 (#19 of 194)

Oh the taking two buses in an hour on one fare thing is a really good simple idea that will make a difference to a lot of people on lower incomes.

That was Sadiq Khan's idea wasn't it? I presume it was, not very many people know this but his dad was a bus driver apparently ;oP

GreenFuture - 10 Apr 2018 21:29:02 (#20 of 194)

It won't shock people to know that I didn't see the garden bridge as "pissing away money on vanity projects".

I agree that he's a grown up. It's a shocking reflection on political life that this can now be listed as high on a list of achievements.

There are imaginative ideas to support housing, such as more support and advice for renters. Social cleansing and the buy-up of london housing by global money laundering operations are at least things he could speak out about and try to compose ideas on, perhaps he doesn't mind though. Like I say, I don't know.
