It is slowly dawning on me that Owen Jones is a bit of a dick.

Was he ever held in high regard? He wrote a book once, didn't he? Why is he is so shit now?

Was he ever held in high regard?

I think he's intelligent. He does come across as being angry about having to speak about whatever he's being asked to speak about.

Like he's annoyed that people don't know this shit and agree with him already.

But I don't think he's one of worst public figures by a country mile.

I like him.

TRaney - 04 May 2018 09:30:22 (#3 of 1633)

It’s hard to imagine him being old

Little Owen - another one who irritates all the right people.

dreams99 - 04 May 2018 09:32:27 (#5 of 1633)

He's just got sucked in to being a partisan propagandist, with little pretence at any balance or nuance. So has Paul Mason, of course, but he's just loopy.

Finally, getting on to the real enemy.

ZimAgain - 04 May 2018 09:35:18 (#7 of 1633)

The JPF?

Only slowly? The fundamental flaw with LOJ is the same old one all those people he despises have. He can sniff power and influence and he really, really wants it.

HorstVogel - 04 May 2018 09:37:50 (#9 of 1633)

you mean JFP don't you?

Agaliarept - 04 May 2018 09:38:27 (#10 of 1633)

SPLITTERS!

ChankNolen - 04 May 2018 09:49:03 (#11 of 1633)

He did some political interviews on YouTube which were really thoughtful and interesting.

Like a lot of the new media sages, his basic problem is over-exposure and lack of quality control.

Yes, nobody really has a strong opinion on every topic.

Not even old dotters.

machiavelli - 04 May 2018 10:01:41 (#13 of 1633)

Like Mark Zuckerberg, he falls into the "looks like a punchable student" category.

StakludKar - 04 May 2018 10:03:03 (#14 of 1633)

Owen Jones still hangs out with the toxic novara clique despite concerns being raised to him in good faith around their behaviour

To be fair Mason was once a very fine journalist. He didn't go loopy till quite recently.

LOJ has never been a real journalist.

Tagyourit - 04 May 2018 10:05:06 (#17 of 1633)

LOJ can, sometimes, be very good but he suffers from a common issue for columnists: He has to come up with fresh material on a very frequent and regular basis and this is very difficult.

As one of the few very articulate supporters of Corbynism he's called upon to give his opinion a lot more than he would have been previously. As he is a convert to Corbynism from a previously antagonistic position has led to him to harden his stance in order to appear loyal and possibly even write in support of things that he doesn't truly believe in himself, writing himself into corners.

#15 Probably best to delete that TVoR.

SheikYerbouti - 04 May 2018 10:06:50 (#19 of 1633)

ha ha ha.

Little Owen hasn't done his time reporting on potholes for the Coventry Argus. How can he hold his head up?
