Fray Bentos FORCED to redesign PIE TINS...because Millennials are TOO STUPID to open them!

Fray Bentos Pie tins are getting a makeover after half a century in the current design because Millennials are having difficulty opening them. In a series of YouTube clips that went viral, hungry purchasers of the iconic pie can be seen expressing frustration in their hilarious attempts to open the can.

You have to be quite stupid to want to open a Fray Bentos pie tin. They contain the abomination of desolation of the pie world.

Is anyone else getting a little bored of stories constantly blaming millenials for everything?

I'd bet the house that this decision has zero to do with millenials and 100% to do with cost.

They are cheap though and as such fulfil all the nutritional requirements of the working class.

They are cheap though and as such fulfil all the nutritional requirements of the working class.

That's one disturbing attitude towards Millenials you have.

Not to mention towards the working class.

Yep, but I blame millennials for clicking on the stories

lusmeri1 - 15 May 2018 15:01:13 (#7 of 118)

I'm getting tired of young people in their forties and fifties blaming people of slightly more mature years for everything.

DesEsseintes - 15 May 2018 15:04:01 (#8 of 118)

Fray Bentos tins were designed to be opened and put in the oven in the middle of the night during the consumption of vast amounts of beer.

Said millenials are clearly not meeting one or both of these preconditions.

FishPaste - 15 May 2018 15:07:05 (#9 of 118)

I've not had one for years - but now I've got a craving.

To be fair to millennials you can do yourself a lot of harm trying to open one if you've not got the right equipment.

Bonusy - 15 May 2018 15:09:42 (#10 of 118)

A can opener?

thisonehasalittlehat - 15 May 2018 15:18:40 (#11 of 118)

I think it's mostly baby boomers blaming millennials for everything.

I only discovered last year that Fray Bentos is an actual place, then a few months later it came up in a pub quiz.

FishPaste - 15 May 2018 15:22:09 (#13 of 118)

"A can opener?"

If you don't have a can opener it can be difficult - but not impossible.

I've had fray bentos come up in a pub quiz too.

Made a right mess.

Gotout - 15 May 2018 15:23:26 (#15 of 118)

I suppose if you just heat it then the can might open itself in a spectacular way.

carterbrandon - 15 May 2018 15:24:30 (#16 of 118)

I had one a few years ago out of nostalgia. It was much poorer quality meat than I remember from childhood (when it was an absolute staple).

FishPaste - 15 May 2018 15:26:12 (#17 of 118)

No, you have to get a knife and stab the top of the tin - then saw it to the edge and gradually work it round. That usually causes sharp little bits of metal to be broken off and go into the pie - but you can always spit them out.

If you're pissed (and why else would you be trying to do this?) it can be dangerous due to the knife and the sharp edges of the metal.

There used to be chicken and mushroom ones too.

TheExcession - 15 May 2018 15:27:41 (#18 of 118)

I didn't even know that these things still existed. I thought they'd gone the way of space hoppers, Raleigh Choppers, spangles, and creepy middle aged men being allowed on children's television... (okay apart from Mr Tumble)

DesEsseintes - 15 May 2018 15:28:35 (#19 of 118)

You just have to be sensible with the lid, and let the pie cool down a little if you don't want a burnt gob.

FleurDuMal - 15 May 2018 15:29:16 (#20 of 118)

I don't think 'stupid' is the correct word. 'Unwilling to risk injury to eat a mediocre, mass-market food product' would be more accurate.
