Further evidence that going to Uni doesn't make you better off

So blokes: leave school at 16 and train to be a plumber !

Their sums apparently missing out on...

a/ the cost of repaying the loan

b/ the 3 year opportunity cost of not working

10 witless philistine points.

What he said.

TRaney - 27 Nov 2018 14:01:38 (#3 of 333)

And another 10 points I’ll not bother with

SheikYerbouti - 27 Nov 2018 14:03:36 (#4 of 333)

Vintage bossab, today.

Where's the thread about Plod, that's what I want to know.

carterbrandon - 27 Nov 2018 14:06:10 (#5 of 333)

Elbow deep in other people's shite, comfortably off but garnering ever more mockery with each toweringly vulgar purchase, having only the company of plumbers; it's not for everybody.

RosyLovelady - 27 Nov 2018 14:12:42 (#6 of 333)

The Company of Plumbers sounds like something a bit quirky from the Booker long list.

PostmodernToss - 27 Nov 2018 14:14:17 (#7 of 333)

Can you even imagine having bossab as your dad?

I think I'd be hell-bent on a degree in Art History or Anglo-Saxon, Norse & Celtic just to watch the old fool turn full purple.

FleurDuMal - 27 Nov 2018 14:19:33 (#8 of 333)

Heh, quite!

PostmodernToss - 27 Nov 2018 14:21:43 (#9 of 333)

I bet ASNAC is fascinating and generally very rewarding to study, as it goes.

Lawlsie - 27 Nov 2018 14:22:15 (#10 of 333)

Education is the silver bullet. Education is everything. We don't need little changes. We need gigantic, monumental changes. Schools should be palaces. Competition for the best teachers should be fierce. They should be getting six-figure salaries. Schools should be incredibly expensive for government and absolutely free of charge for its citizens, just like national defence.

Totally agree. Extend that attitude into other areas where people are employed to help society function.

PostmodernToss - 27 Nov 2018 14:23:50 (#12 of 333)

To be fair, Lawlsie we spend almost twice as much on education as we do on defence.

Lawlsie - 27 Nov 2018 14:25:53 (#13 of 333)

Don't come round here with your pesky FACTS teacher boy!

Lawlsie - 27 Nov 2018 14:26:24 (#14 of 333)

Okay by me.

I'm sure that's true. And it would have so many other pay-offs besides pay. Education is a good in its own right. Education for the sake of it is the best kind of education. Education should be for life and continuous. Education is the silver bullet for everything.

FleurDuMal - 27 Nov 2018 14:29:04 (#16 of 333)

A flawless argument.

AlanII - 27 Nov 2018 14:29:54 (#17 of 333)

Hah, yes. Feminist Studies would be good for a laugh on that score too.

PostmodernToss - 27 Nov 2018 14:30:00 (#18 of 333)

This is what annoyed me about Blair's ELQ legislation: why shouldn't people be able to go back to university in later life to study another degree for pleasure on the same financial basis as any undergraduate?

Lawlsie - 27 Nov 2018 14:31:27 (#19 of 333)

A flawless argument.

I think you should go to "Uni" for the education and/or the experience you will have. If you end up earning significantly more from the do so that is a plus.
